NNE Winter Thread II

Snow has restarted in St. J as the radar hole, which existed to get me to work easily, has filled back in. There was about 2.6 inches new at the house when I left. When things started up again the consistency was odd. It was like very small graupel. It didn't seem to be sleet but was pellet like but much smaller than most graupel I see. Just bad growth I guess.

Good explanation of what I was seeing as well about an hour ago. Bigger flakes starting to mix in now, you may have an adventurous trip back home after work :)

Here’s the current north to south listing of morning snowfall totals that I’ve seen from the various Vermont ski areas; it’s up and down somewhat along the spine, but in general the higher totals are to the south:

Jay Peak: 8”

Burke: 4”

Smuggler’s Notch: 8”

Stowe: 6”

Bolton Valley: 5”

Mad River Glen: 10”

Sugarbush: 12”

Middlebury: 8”

Pico: 6”

Killington: 6”

Okemo: 10”

Bromley: 12”

Magic Mountain: 12”

Stratton: 6”

Mount Snow: 13”

3.75" as of 9:30.

Had a period of moderate to occassionally heavy snow but now back to light snow. Holes keep opening on the radar around here but just to my east and ne it looks to be doing nicely. Might be a screw zone here this time. Hope we can settle down into some 1+ per hour rates for a few hours at some point.

Eric and Jeff look to be doing well right now.

Yes. Rotation around dry slot in Srn NH setting up nicely. Looks like that band is setting up saint Albans vt down to Plymouth nh is about to become primary and pivot up.

I think the northern Champlain Valley takes this home... good for the valley once in a while.

But however it looks like all of NNY and NVT will be in the pivot zone based on latest RH plots. Radar loop would agree.

Then once flow goes NW it'll linger like it always does for a while.

Feeling like a lock for getting over 12" at this point.

WCAX had a report of 9.5" from St. Albans on the 6:30 news.

Continuing to pour snow in Montpelier. Visibility between 1/4 and 1/2 mile. I'm bad at guaging visibility so that is a rough estimate.

ADK is getting dumped on. I'd wager the high peaks will get 30 or so above 3000 ft (which isn't that high over there).

Really interesting storm otherwise. Stowe is def. getting a little shadowed. It was dumping in BTV (and still is) WOOF. All the way thru the pass on 89. Then it started changing to a lighter snow. Stowe's 6 was about right. It was a wetter more solid 6. Temps were about 27. In richmond there was 8-10 on the ground and it was 22-24F. In BTV there is 10-11 and it's 24-25F.

Keene Valley is reporting 16 already with 1" hr snowfall rates.

The tricky part is going to be what happens when the winds start to rotate around to the N. Per the hig res BTVWRF we're looking at temps falling to -12 to -16C at 850 and about .5 inches of moisture. That could result in a really nice 8inches of champlain powder along the spine.
