Inside 84 hours is no good anymore either. What we will HAVE learned is meteorological models can not predict what will happen beyond 2 days anymore. Every met in the planet mentioned decent snows in NE this morning for Christmas, but Monday Morning QBIng is always easy. Let's see, every model except the Euro at 12 Z has decent snows but we never learn? What are your cutoffs? The day of?

Well it shows you how fickle this whole situation is.

Day 3 is when I start taking events seriously.

That's all I wish for, some snow to bring some smiles, all the talk of jackpots is silly. Hopefully it happens.

Well over the years, it seems like many have developed a jackpot fetish....they won't be happy unless they are getting more snow than 4 towns over. I'll be thrilled with enough snow on Christmas to cover the grass. Hopefully its 4 or 5" but I won't frown if its 1.8" instead. I just want to steal a White Christmas here...and I think the odds are very good we do.

Exactly my thoughts this morning. Let's hope we spread out a grass covering for all. Amount forecasting really should wait until 12-18 hours before hand.

Yeah or the very least, inside of 48h. These small events are very fickle.

No way should anyone take this as me predicting 18" of snow...but look at Dec 1997 as an example of the shortwave...looks pretty pathetic, right?

These little redevelopers south of LI are always a nasty forecast...sometimes they can totally go nuclear on us with little warning...and other times we just get the 1-3" that might be expected 3 days out.

It's no longer fun seeing peoples moods change every 6hrs with every model run that comes out.

agreed. you can never look at a model again, or hinge on every model run. it doesn't matter, the weather's gonna do what it's gonna do.

the future will be better tomorrow...

I still find it a little funny. I also don't see folks really locking it in. I'm in Taunton btw. We went to a bday party at that Playhouse place in the center

Its definitely is funny to watch some of the meltdowns or early spikes...but at some point, it gets overly repetitive to hear definitive statements every 6 hours when a new model run happens. This is different than just saying what the model shows verbatim.

If the last systems havent taught people not to trust model guidance several days out, I don't think anything will.
