DavisStraight
1993 was when we had light snow late Christmas Eve night and predawn Christmas day.....1995 didnt see it. I remember a good one back in the 60's or maybe early 70's, good size storm, not a 2-3 incher. Woke up to it Christmas morning, weenie heaven,

Was not sure of the year. I remember driving to Gardner from Foxboro with my then gf, current wife, in the snow. 1993 makes sense. What dis ORH get? CT Rain
Did lmolineux make that map for him? I really can't take anyone seriously who makes a map like that and expects people to pay for his thoughts/forecasts on a website.
ORH_wxman
I guess ther could have been some snow in 1995 but it woul dhave just been snow showers scattered around. There was a band in 1993 that dropped like an inch late that night. In the 1960s there were big storms on Dec 24-25, 1966 and a huge one on Dec 23-24, 1961 that dumped 18" here. I really don't understand it. I thought WeatherBell was kind of a big name company? How do they feel having him represent them with a map like that. There are kids in high school that can do better than that. All you have to do is step up from MS paint to powerpoint to make a difference ... not a big leap to take... NJwinter23
We had a half inch during one of the Christmas mornings in the mid 90's. I believe it was 95. Hmm I dont remember that happening in 95, but I was young..i thought i remembered every event that winter (including the smaller earlier december events) though. There may ahve been a xmas day snow event back in the early 90s before that. I vaguely remember going to my uncles in staten island during a snow storm, and that is usually only a xmas day or thanksgiving occasion that we go there. CoastalWx
The Christmas Eve '93 was from an ULL iirc. I do remember those big fluffy flakes while the moon was out.

Orh is correct it was scattered snow showers. I was in Holmdel at the time. I believe we just luck out. There where a couple that week. But like he said it was not a organizied storm. Sey-Mour Snow
How about Christmas 2002? I was fairly young but seem to remember a big snowstorm with some mixing issues here. That storm was rain to snow on christmas.. CT saw nothing east to 10-15" west, while SE NY saw up to 20" in Orange County.

Let the good times roll. about 72 hours from start time in southern areas. not in NAM range yet, but GFS should be close to final outcome, especially by tomorrow night. It's Always Sunny
12Z GEM has a Nor'easter on 12/25 @ 18Z. Not sure if that was already talked about but highly unlikely in my opinion.
CT Rain
I could see the 12/25 storm putting down a nice weenie ribbon thanks to some frontogenesis and banding as the low slides underneath us.

CT Rain
New SREFs have quite a few amped up members now. I'm sure this post will come back to haunt me once the weenies take it out of context... but I could see the 12/25 event become more impressive with a decent batch of warm advection/frontogenesis as the wave slides underneath us. What has changed in the last 48 hours or so is that instead of the wave getting sheared and sent through a meat grinder of confluence over SNE there's enough separation to actually let the s/w amplify a bit. When coupled with the natural baroclinic zone along the coast you may set up a nice little feedback and get some weenie totals on Christmas. Tough forecast though with a lot of moving parts... so nothing a lock... but there is some "up" potential to this one.

It has that look of a narrow fronto band with a decent vortmax. Good venting too.

Yeah I could envision a nice banding signature somewhere. But there's a lot to sort out before we get too excited.
CoastalWx
It's good to see but I'm looking at Penn State eWall and they still have most areas as rain. The SREFs at the end of their range aren't very helpful at all. Something I've learned over the last few years. Usually within 48-60hrs, they are better performers.
