At least it will be winter temp-wise after this beasty clears out...

Yep. And I'm old enough to believe that a "typical" December can be stupid warm and foggy, or cold, crisp, and maybe a little snow. More often than not, for most of SNE, there a few snow chances here and there in Dec, Jan is colder, and often dry, and Feb. is when we look for good storms.

I know we have some young posters on here...but it seems even some of the older ones have amnesia on the blowtorch Decembers of 1990s.

The 2000-2010 was pretty decent to us for temps...but even more for snow...despite 2001 and 2006 in there.

But two torchy December in row puts fear into the hearts more than 4 in a row cold/snowy sooths the soul.

Will, were there any big snow December's that were also torches in the 1990s/2000s?

Dec 1996 was a huge torch, but we got destroyed in the interior in the dual Cantore snowbombs.

Dec 2008 was epic for both snow and of course the ice storm...but it was finished around +1 for the month...nota torch, but still a bit above average.

I probably would not say its amnesia, It just some want to misremember those years

December 1998, we saw 70's. As a kid I remember a few XMas eve's in the 80's driving (my parents drove actually) in rain and fog. I don't get the toaster out until after XMas.

December 29, 1984 was epic. Still the largest departure form average I believe at ORH...the day was +37 I think. High of 70 and low of 55....on Dec 29th!!!

I'm a young poster, I remember the warmish winters of the 90's. Including sometime around 94? with a heavy gale it was so warm that my folks had the window open on xmas eve.

Prob the Dec 23-24, 1994 storm. We've talked about that one on here before. It was actually sub-tropical in origin. There was no cold air at all for it to tap into...so we had a hige rainstorm on Christmas Eve. I was pretty bummed in that one.
