We've dropped 1.5 degrees here in the past hour. It won't come close to making any difference for us and it isn't the cold push that's chilling parts of MA, but I thought it interesting that its getting colder just about everywhere. Of course, we don't have to worry about latent heat release from freezing rain warming us up ;)

CF runs from newbury,ma down to boxboro (just west of 95) down to N reading down into E woburn and lexington /n waltham weston natick . West of there GLuck driving. 34.5 disgusting degrees in wakefield ma. CF looks like it may have nudge West in last hour a smidge as reading meso net has gone from 33 to 35. blah

You got it right except its nowhere near Boxboro and 495 north of the pike. Well locked in east of there.

I hope towns really salt the roads, this could be a nightmare for traffic.

Its really ugly out there. It has that ugly ice storm sound right now....the crackling sounds as the wind freshens out of the NE. My side road has been salted several times, but it is a skating rink anyway. Only so often it can be replenished...it gets washed away to some extent and that 27F temps to take its toll.

lol your correct. on weatherunderground i didn't squint enuf to read it. i KNOW my geography in ne mass. boxford by 95.

and actually CF just easted east up in boxford and crossed 95 for the first time. also temps really falling now around arlington heights and auberndale inside 128 now getting to freezing. also the medway (rombalski) area just fell from 38 to 34 in about 5 minutes. i just need the damn reading meso net to crash to about 30. c'mon!!!

it is filthy will and the CF is easing East. newburyport dropped 5 f last hour down to boxford and the "tri city " meson net to there SE. Alot of populated areas are going below freezing now and the precip is moving in.

one thing i wonder will (and most mets say no way) is looking at euro run on wunderground , it has 850's below 0c for good chunk of ne mass (it trended this way last nite for this time period) is there a warm layer at H8 , that keeps it from being snow as this batch moves in

ORH is gusting to 18 knots out of the NE now...BED dropped to 27F last hour from 28.

I think the dropping in temps has reached its peak though...should be a slow rise from now. But we'll see how well that dewpoint pool can sustain these temps or at least slow their rise.

Virtually every N ORH county and me have been dropping now for the past 15 min...down a quick 0.4F...this must be that final push of the cold air/dewpoint pool before it tries to exhaust itself a bit here when the heavier previp moves in...but its important to keep watching the feed from SE NH and S ME to see if it keeps connecting....this is what allowed the big 2008 ice storm under marginal conditions...we have nowhere near the QPF to rival anything like that...but in terms of sustained icing its important to watch that stuff.

If those winds up there go more ENE, then its over...self destructing icing occurs. But as long as those winds remain NE and esp NNE, then its game one for continued icing, even for the CP W of the CF.
