May be the wrong sub for this, but it does include Iowa so I'll put it here. This was a hybrid clipper type system that layed down a narrow corridor of very heavy snow. IIRC models and forecasters both were way too low with amounts from this storm. The heaviest snows fell from Sioux City through Des Moines to just south of the QC. Sioux City picked up 18.4", while Des Moines had 17.4". Pretty impressive for a clipper type system.

Des Moines ended up being in the perfect postion, right underneath the pivot point. You can see how they got so much snow. Snow looks pretty convective towards the end of the radar loop.
