cyclone77
May be the wrong sub for this, but it does include Iowa so I'll put it here. This was a hybrid clipper type system that layed down a narrow corridor of very heavy snow. IIRC models and forecasters both were way too low with amounts from this storm. The heaviest snows fell from Sioux City through Des Moines to just south of the QC. Sioux City picked up 18.4", while Des Moines had 17.4". Pretty impressive for a clipper type system. Des Moines ended up being in the perfect postion, right underneath the pivot point. You can see how they got so much snow. Snow looks pretty convective towards the end of the radar loop. Here's a list of Sioux City top snowstorms. This one's near the top. http://www.crh.noaa....=snowstorms_sux
michsnowfreak
Good stuff. We had 5.9" imby Mar 16/17th, which was actually the best snowfall of the winter here (beat out Jan 14th by 0.1"). Very drifty. I think it was the same system? Interesting that Detroit is not the only place whos granddaddy snowstorm happened in April!
snowstormcanuck
12-20" fell just to my SW (combo of pivot point deformation zone aided by LES). 1.6" here.
mnweather
Those totals are amazing for a clipper.

snowstormcanuck
wtf? Maybe your area IS jinxed? Meh, back in those days it evened out more. A little earlier that winter (Jan 26-27) I got 13" of snow while most other areas around me saw 3-6".
