daddylonglegs
I don't normally watch Letterman, but caught this last night. Balog has a new film out on the melting glaciers. Some pretty cool time lapse work. http://www.cbs.com/shows/late_show/video/2315470373/david-letterman-glacier-photographer-james-balog
TerryM
I've watched some of Balog's footage over the last few years & the extreme slow motions of Glaciers retreating or running out are amazing. It's good that late night TV watchers are getting a sample. Terry
salbers
I saw a screening of the film this past week with James Balog and others personally on hand to answer questions after the movie. Most excellent film. Here is a link with more info about seeing this. http://www.chasingice.com/

Jonger
"Never to be seen again in the history of civilization". Well, I guess until the next ice age comes that statement is true.
salbers
Alek - you're welcome. Jonger - at the risk of debating semantics it's either of two things. The next ice age will occur when the landscape has undergone a more permanent change, or civilization may not last until the next ice age (10000-100000+ years). Or simply even when the next ice age comes, the glacier will somehow look different. Maybe this was an allusion to past history, as the glacier has been present for the entire history of civilization so far. ben4vols
Geez, 2 chicken littles clucking away. Dave wants the glaciers to come back? LOL. What future are we leaving for our kids? I'd like Dave to tell me one thing that he has noticed in his own life that has in any way been impacted by what he considers "man made climate change". Has the ocean rise caused his studio to go under water? His home? Has the intense heat of NY summers caused his maintenance man to have more heat strokes? Give me a break. Dave asked have we ever seen this in history. The answer, no not since the rise of agriculture. LOL. The rise of agriculture was like yesterday in the grand scheme of things. That gives very little context whatsoever.
