hokierulz98
Woah! 0Z GFS! A good bit south has Short Pump in 8" on the weenie snow map now. http://raleighwx.americanwx.com/models/gfs/00zgfssnowdepth024.gif
MidlothianWX
makes it hard to listen to the DC crowd, doesn't it? Spoiled brats. Our own little slice of snow hell. If everything goes according to plan, I will be leaving this area next fall and will never again have to suffer through a full winter here (apart from a few weeks on break). My parents are planning on moving north or west in approx. two years. Richmond winters will do things to you, man.

benjammin
Can we believe the 0Z GFS and its glimmer of hope for the RVA and environs? What say you weather savants? If the low is truly south of the earlier models, is it really possible?
MidlothianWX
So pumped this storm is going to happen for you guys, you're long overdue for a decent hit. I remember the lead up to the blizzard and how sweet it was to finally get crushed after such a long snow drought. Good luck down there! Sigh... Fodie77
Hey MidlothianWX, what do you think about this map? Is it possible that the low placement could be further south than progged?

MidlothianWX
Hey MidlothianWX, what do you think about this map? Is it possible that the low placement could be further south than progged? Could be slightly, although I don't think it makes much of a difference because every model has this thing tracking over Norfolk and then backing into VA before stalling. That is what really kills us. This is a game of inches. Latest RAP makes me want to throw up. What could have been if this thing was 25-50 miles SE. This is going to have an epic gradient. I remember being in this same position in December 2010 wishcasting the low north. Now I'm wishcasting it south. Sigh.

MidlothianWX
Could only happen here. At this point it's really just become sort of a joke. I can expect it every time if it's not a weak sliding system. This place is an absolute hellhole if you love snow. Dry slot, mixing precip, whatever - if it can happen, it will. The largest storm I've seen in my nine years of living here has been 13" and that was from a system with zero dynamics. What a joke. I might as well be in the f'ing plains. I can't remember what storm it was (maybe Feb 10, 2010?) where we got a surprise 3 inches in a couple of hours due to an intense wraparound band. You are correct in your recollection - that storm did give us a nice wrap-around. Similar situation/setup overall, except this one is in March. I'm done for the winter now though; this was the final arrow in my already-damaged psyche.
