there is some potential for lightning between now about 06z. There is somw slight convective instability evident on the NAM which coincides with the radar and satellite trends of WNY being on the edge of the dryslot where static stability is reduced.

I don't think I've ever experienced Thunder snow in a synoptic snowstorm ever in my life. That would be a first and I hope it happens!

I actually did experience non-lake-effect thunder snow a few times in Germany where I grew up. Pretty rare there as well, but it does happen and usually comes with the heaviest snow you can get in that part of the world.

I had some excellent thunder ++ thunder snow in the 1993 Superstorm below Albany where I lived then.

and Re: Germany, I was just over there for a few weeks ...visiting relatives in ULM among other places. Beautiful cold and snowy pattern there the first half of December. A foot of snow in Ulm...gone now as the Atkantic air has taken over, but sweet to have during Xmas season.

I can't really see outside the terminal very well so I'm relying on you guys to let me know how much snow has fallen. I'm amazed that they are still planning to get us out of here tonight.

I took off to NYC/Bermuda in the middle of an 11" snowstorm a few years ago. The BUF airport is pretty amazing about that.

Just took a walk in Delaware Park in what was definitely the heaviest snow so far. Pretty amazing storm. It actually almost felt more like LES. Very small flake size here as it has been since the start. It's just "pouring" snow. Didn't measure, but probably already approaching 8". Keep it coming :)

Well, I lied. It's now snowing even harder than earlier. This is crazy. It's almost whiteout right now, but without even any wind! I just shoveled some snow, and I'm pretty sure it snowed around half an inch in just 20 minutes!!!

And in the past few days they had flooding and temps in the upper 60s!! Bad timing :)

Dry pocket certainly looks to provide CNY'ers a couple hour intermission....hopefully that's the extent of it!

If that isnt one of the nastiest slots I've seen in awhile. It's like a giant middle finger coming right up 81.

You'll eventually get back in the def band as it pivots out of here. Tough break though.

The "glass half full" side of me says that this just takes back the unexpected fluff factor that is being realized....still a solid foot around here before it is said and done....you guys are, IMO, going to overperform a bit...
