Anyone who is getting their panties in a twist this early needs to take a deep breath and calm down. The average first measurable snow in Boston isn't usually until something like December 10. It's not at all uncommon to see a big dump at the end of December that dominates the snowfall for the month.

I have a serious skiing addiction and will probably be near suicidal if we get another warm year, but I am still calm and optimstic.

Welcome! Cooler heads will prevail. Great first post!

GGEM looks like a more prolonged period of frozen in the interior before a flip to rain

Euro hasn't been overly enthusiastic on this idea though so I would like to see it come around a bit before thinking more than just a couple hours of front end sleet/ice/mangled flakes.

Pretty big changes on the GEFS as compared to 00z, but could be typical model mayhem.

Wow...that is cold on the GEFS. It looks a lot better up by AK/Bering Sea/Kamchatka than it has for several days. Arctic express into the CONUS because of that.

Its insistance on the -NAO doesn't hurt either...but I think the N PAC is what fuels the colder look...at least for the plains.

The name is very self-descriptive. Mountain meteorology (specifically mountain wave breaking and secondary generation) was my specialty in grad school.

I have seasons passes to Jay Peak and the Granite Pass (Wildcat, Attitash, Crotched). I spend most of time ski time at my ski club in North Conway, though I'll be at Jay Peak next week. I'll be skiing slush at Bretton Woods and Attitash this weekend and early next week. I've got my fingers crossed for some upslope flow late next week at Jay.

Nice man, hope your Jay peak trip is filled with feathers. enjoy.

I know. I don't know what to make of it, but that looks great. That was a big change. The GFS op and GEFS temp differences averaged out are like 15-25 cooler than 00z..lol. I'd like to see the other ensembles do this. It may have swung a little too hard here, but if it can keep a modest form of the H5 height field in AK and the Davis Straits..that would be good here.

my cousin and her husband live in N. Conway, and he skis there a ton. I bet you'd know him.

Yeah I doubt we end up as nuts as the GEFs indicate....it has virtually the entire CONUS in the freeze, lol. Coast to coast.

I never said to punt December BTW...that is all LL.

Mrs Claus and I just finished Xmas shopping, at Tucker's for a burger and beer. I said punt till the 20th, not the entire month and you did say the other day you were close to punting the first half if the month, just satin'. Another gorgeous day!

Well most December's have 15 days where nothing really happens. That's a lot different. Maybe a trip to the Blue Oyster Bar?

Probably when he would throw stuff at the DIFAX charts when the 3-6" of snow squalls on the back end didn't verify. Or the thunderstorms on Cape Cod during Nor' Easters.

LOL, that was me when I woke up to brown ground and the sun shining after 1-3" was forecasted. I miss the little tstm icon with lightning bolts coming out of it.
