CooL
But the pattern will just change in 10 more days! I hope you're right
tim
Normally, I would be thinking this way as well, but it really does not look like this current pattern has staying power. See, for example, donsutherland's posts in the main thread. Unlke last year when he never saw us escaping the torch, he outlines some pretty persuasive reasons why this year looks different. If this pans out, it looks like you might want to keep your coat, hat, and gloves close-by. ...i was thinking the same thing..discouraged by a temp of 61..i thought what don s. said and what his thoughts are..he still thinks the weather will turn colder come mid december..i'm hanging my hat with donald sutherland.. SnoSki14
20's and 30's with a breeze is miserable. You can't do anything outside 60's in December, you can forget about snow. I guarantee if this torch went on for a couple weeks, people would be mad. They certainly were mad last winter.

If it's not gonna snow..a day like today is nice..A two day cold shot does nothing for me..sorry..dry and cold with no snow chances is not my thing
Snowshack
20's and 30's with a breeze is miserable. You can't do anything outside Your body can acclimate to that pretty quickly, but its rare enough in this area that we just don't get a chance to do so. Sundog
At this point I'll sacrifice all of December if it means that these fraudulent "meteorologists" that keep insisting it will be cold and snowy no matter what are thoroughly embarrassed. SnoSki14
Talk about god awful, widespread 70s next week on the gfs, severe weather perhaps ahead of the cutter? Even after the storm passes, it still looks warm with a GOA low hovering about. Back to back clunkers perhaps?

They were embarrassed repeatedly last winter and it had no effect on them or their followers.

ace0927
Paul Pastelok from Accuweather He says pattern will change, why do you assume (or are you assuming) he means to a cold and snowy pattern? Im pretty sure HM has outlined why the pattern will change it likely wont amount to a snowy one for us....

Yeah, our only chance to cash in is if the Euro weeklies are right with their strong -NAO depictions for the 2nd half of the month. Otherwise, we're going to be on the wrong side of the gradient. ace0927
Because he mentioned it. Why are people so hung up over last winter? this winter wont be last winter, just like last year wasnt 2001-2002. None the less, the likelihood of a very good winter go down significantly with a weak december. I posted the stats in the SNE subforum.
MJO812
0z GGEM is a coastal for next week's storm
SnoSki14
If the NAO is really supposed to tank like the guidance says then the storm that is shown as a cutter now could possibly be further east, maybe a coastal? Cold air would probably be a problem even in the best case scenario, which right now I doubt.
MJO812
0z GEFS is less amped than the op. There are probably some members who are further east .
MJO812
Looks like the Nogaps would be an apps runner. GGEM was an apps runner but transfered to the coast. https://www.fnmoc.navy.mil/wxmap_cgi/cgi-bin/wxmap_single.cgi?area=ngp_namer&dtg=2012120400∏=prpτ=180&set=All
Storm At Sea
This looks like a classic Chicago snowstorm setup. This storm could be the driving force to finally invade the EC with at least seasonal cold. I think this transition is going to take most of the month...maybe a SECS by Christmas or New Years.
