I think HM is getting excited for January though, if I read his other posts correctly, so maybe we got that going for us at least.

GFS ensembles supportive of the DT post-Xmas storm.

He's liked January for a while.

But it sounds like the weenie got the best of him on that quoted post. That, or he was mocking the negative posts.

And let's not forget that if the mjo isn't doing the 8-1-2 thing we'd much prefer to have it in the cod anyway. It's not like the mjo is the exclusive driver of our weather. Only matters when it's active and it hasn't been for a while. All HM was saying is that the current modeling of phase 1 may not mean anything. That's far from saying we're gonna torch while getting soaked. But we probably will anyway. lol

Bob's totally right about lake temps being warm, but so have surface temps on shore, and this season has sucked hard for LES so far. As a result, things have been pretty quiet in the WNY part of the Upstate forum. Last I checked, the Southtowns snow belt was already 12 inches behind normal snowfall to date.

I don't think temps will be a problem for Southern Tier ski country but flow is harder to pin down. For the Chautauqua ridge, strong NW flow, preferably with a Huron/Georgian connection, is what you want. You may want to keep an eye on the comments section at WIVB (Buffalo) met Don Paul's blog. He doesn't add posts often, but he exchanges comments with readers many times a day. Since you have a trip planned, just ask him on his blog what he's seeing in the 2 week out models for ski country. He'll give you a pretty solid answer.

These models and this pattern is down right pitiful. Not even worth model watching 2 days before an event, which was evident before previous storms this year already. Winter 2012-2013 looking to be as disgusting as last year. Carry on

Hey Fozz, I'm sorry you can't take my opinion so you call my post pitiful. It's the truth so far in this short winter and the few storms that have rolled through. So deal with it, good or bad like it or not. I don't go ripping your post or anybody else's post good or bad, on topic or off topic. We all have our own opinions and shouldn't have to deal with somebody name tagging them pitiful because their not agreed with by every member. Good luck to everybody the rest of this winter and Merry Christmas.

Declaring this winter "as disgusting as last year", when we're only two weeks into December, is pitiful. Period.

And no, nobody owes your opinion any respect when it's backed by nothing other than whiny tantrums.

None of us are thrilled, but Fozz is right. It's pretty early to give up. I think if any of us had been told we could have 8 good weeks of winter, we'd choose late Dec through late Feb. That may happen. Doubtful many would gripe about it then. And I haven't figured out how any of this is the fault of the models.

60.8? Wow, I'm 50-60 miles north and I topped out at 53.8 after a 20.6 low. Still a pretty big temp. spread and the show was good last night!

Yeah, but you are a whole lot higher in elevation than we are here. Alleghany area always seems to be atleast 7-10 degrees cooler than Roanoke.

Whatever it did to spoil us was quickly undone to most of us by 11-12.

Remember, some of us haven't seen a 2" snowfall in our backyards since January 2011.

Yeah, I do sometimes forget that from where the majority of the posters are in the Mid-Atlantic in comparison to where I am is like a world apart sometimes.

Feb. 2012 was my last snow and got a good 8-9" out of it.
