Let's face the facts: any NWS (or veteran level-headed met.) poster here is easily 10x more important than any of us regular posters. Immense value added by having them here. Experience + resources available to them is so valuable to our threads.

Anyone bashing them should be quickly tossed.

This, +1000. Our local NWS mets, Tony, Mike, Mitchell, and Walt, are an incredible asset to our subforum and this board. And I'll be damned if some weenies are going to drive them away. Not including you in that statement, Paul.

isn't it interesting that NONE of the mets on this board defend JB (as far as I know). The more you know about meteorology, the less you respect him. It's sad that he's become such a big name in the business. I'm not jealous of his celebrity status-I'm embarrassed that parts of the media continue to use him because he is the loudest and most opinionated voice in the room.

Mike: don't let the petty stuff get to you too much. I, too, was very frustrated when working for NWS, since we would get slammed and not be able to respond. It's not fair. But at least you have a forum here to respond-I never had that opportunity. Keep it up-we need voices like yours!

Glenn

Joe is a perfect fit for America: a culture saturated in anecdotal, unresearched, emotionally-biased information from already biased sources. Until the population demands and until the people want real information, this is the kind of stuff that is going to go on. I see no sign of that changing, whether it is the regular viewer or actual meteorologists. There are a significant amount of unknowledgeable meteorologists in the field; so at the same time, can you blame an enthusiast or customer that purchases garbage like JB?

The more you know about this field, particularly medium-long range, the more you realize how unfounded and unscientific the stuff some people spout off really is and the harm it produces. Just about every winter outlook I see has some type of statistical, logical or factual error, e.g.

If my views appear too pessimistic, then I ask this of the reader: why are we still infatuated with JB and why hasn't someone with legitimacy put him in his place to the point where he is no longer relevant? Hasn't happened yet...

Column 4 (outlined in red) is not used for the official monthly average temperatures. Since the tweet was about Atlantic City, the average for column 4 to date is 46.2F, the actual (which uses the high and low temperatures) is 46.0F. I don't know what else to say.

That's what makes it so hilarious. I've seen him and other mets complain about this "rounding up error" to the anomalies because they have no clue how the actual anomalies are calculated. They don't even go back and double-check the month-to-date anomalies with the "adjusted" number to see if they match, which takes all of one minute to do. I just let JB and others preach their nonsense so other mets that agree with them can have their ignorance exposed.

You make a post like this to basically defend JB, but apparently it is okay for JB to publicly bash the NWS multiple times. He has done this for years!

Crap like this nearly helps me make a final decision to step away from this board!!!

Mike, this subforum is not the same without you. Please don't leave because of crap like this.

To the JB defenders. Listen, JB doesn't post here. These Mt. Holly Mets plus others do. They don't have to, they choose to out of their own free time. I know some of you like JB but the last thing this sub-forum needs is more red taggers being driven away. Personally I met JB in the 2007 Eastern Conference and he was fun to talk to. One of my fondest memoiries of that conference. It doesn't the fact that he blew December. Sure some red taggers got some pleasure over that but it's no reason to attack them. They are here. JB not only isn't, he doesn't read this sub-forum. See my point?

JB not only isn't, he doesn't read this sub-forum.

In fairness, I'm not sure we can go quite this far. We don't know, he might read this subforum. Not that I care if he did, but just saying we don't know if he does or not. He might. JB knows how to market himself, and making posts here would lower his market value.

There is no proof. Meanwhile someone like Glenn, Mike, and Tony not only read but post A zero tolerance policy coming for this type of thing. Adam and I are hammering out the details. Glenn, I see your browsing. It's people like you who make me as a hobbyist want to read this sub-forum. You are appreciated by all of us on the staff. Same with Mike and Tony. Ray, ehh not so much. Jk Ray :P

FYI, +7 at PHL through yesterday. Today adds another +8 or 9 (maybe more).

This is arguably JB's worst call in a while given everything was set up for a rather mild 1st half of December when he made it.

but he got the views...

Give the crowd blood, and they shall love you forever! ( what movie?!)
