Sandy Ushered In A Rare November Snow And Cold Pattern

We experienced a very dramatic shift to cold and snow this November following Sandy at the end of October.

Sandy was able to pull eastward very cold airmass for this time of year as she spun herself out over the Northeast.

The East has not seen a monthly cold temperature departure this low since the winter of 2011.

Newark experienced a rare record low temperature On November 6th followed by record early snowfall

around the area on the 7th.

You wouldn't expect to see such cold temperature departures around our area in November with the

higher heights so close to us like we experienced back in November 2010.

November has also been a very mild month across the U.S. into the East on the whole during the 2000's.

November 2012 ends up as one of the snowiest/coldest on record...

year....temp...snow

1882...39.2...14.0"

1892...43.4.....6.3"

1896...49.9.....5.0"

1898...45.6...19.0"

1938...48.3...12.8"

1989...45.7.....4.7"

2012...44.4.....4.7" as of 11/27

This was really an against the odds month here as the November warming trend has been +.41 DegF/Decade.
