Parents are 2 miles south of I-95. Davis thermometer has been creeping back up the last hour or so, from 36.2 to 36.6. But the cams along I-95 are now showing fat snowflakes where they had just rain before.

Heavier rates could be bringing warmer air from around 950-925mb to the surface while the cooler air further above that around 850mb gets dragged down as well, resulting in warmer surface temps but a shallower layer of above freezing temps overall. There's also the Sun, but I don't think that has too much of a relative effect at the moment.

Interesting theory.

I am confused. I-95 runs north-south from Maine to Florida. Where are they specifically?

As weathergun alluded to the RAP has some good QPF numbers through this evening...over .50" for most areas. However the surface is torched with 2m temperatures in the 40's along the coast and even to Newark. Odd to see with a developing NErly wind component, but the low level cold in this airmass has been very unimpressive.
