1.5" on grass also equals about 1.0" on a snowboard in most cases unless the grass is basically completely flat/dead. I have an area where I measure now that has plywood down, so its a snowboard.

Yeah very true... measuring on grass is always going to have an added half inch or even more depending on how fluffy the snow is or how big the dendrites are.

My snowstake in my yard for example (on the grass) is showing a little over 3" on the ground, but the grill only has about 2-2.5" on it. I'm sure the difference is the air trapped between snow/grass.

Don't let DomNH read this. He claimed there was no air when he used to measure on tall grass.

Some real nice returns to the south of the coastline and now showing up over the Islands and the Cape. Still raining here as we are under light returns. However the heavy stuff is coming and the coastal is developing east of the Delmarva peninsula a little earlier and further west than modeled, according to SPC mesoanalysis.

lol... well its easy to see if you walk on the grass. There's snow on top and grass on the bottom. Not sure how someone could stick a ruler into a lawn (probably dig it into the ground a little bit too, just to be sure) and not see the issue. Measure on a deck, grill, trash can, whatever you have to but don't take new snowfall measurements on a previously bare lawn, lol.
