michsnowfreak
The towel is in hand and ready to be thrown on December..... We will probably know for certain quite soon. The GFS looks brutal... Very zonal. Jon For certain? REALLY? Come on, Im not posting in the complain thread anymore, but at the same time these discussion threads dont need crap like that. Yesterday you posted winter looks to set in on the 20th, and now you throw the towel in. And if you want to actually take the gfs verbatum, it has a minor snow threat this weekend, a big Christmas Eve snowstorm, and the ensembles are colder than the Op....so whats so "brutal" about that? Well todays the 10th, and since everyones not buried in snow (because thats what "the pattern looks to turn colder after the 10th" means will happen), Im sure the complaint thread will be hopping. Jonger
Awesome new pattern guys. 41 and rain and plenty of mid 40s for the rest of the week into the weekend. Just think...7-9 days ago it was advertised that this is when the "shoe" would drop and the "cold" would start. That was wrong. Now its another 7-8 days to go before the "shoe" will drop. I see a pattern here and brings back memories of last year. This is a different winter, with a different type of craptastic weather. The low pressures continue to enter the continent on the north British Columbian shore and BUZZSAW through Canada. Sorry, but this is EXACTLY what happned last winter here. The AO and NAO might be more favorable, but whatever is fueling this parade of storms is EXACTLY the same as 2011-2012. Want winter? Get a plane ticket. Amazing Let's be real, amazing is a complaint thread was made on November 25...and it already has 16 freakin' pages. But it has helped the other threads remain free of dumb sh*t. But let's get back to it...this winter will make 2011-12 seem like 1977-78.

nwohweather
All I ask for is no snow on the weekend of January 19th. I've got tickets to the OSU/MSU Saturday night game and will be so mad if I've got to make that drive in a blizzard. Haha please mother nature avoid this date
BowMeHunter
All of a sudden you're Mr. Positivity. I won't buy any storm until I see accumulating snow. Not really.. But there is nothing to really complain about ATM anymore. We've had a many mostly crappy Decembers especially close to the lake so another shouldn't be a surprise and the first half of the month we were told well in advance to expect the worst and hope for the best. If we have to wait an extra week or two to start seeing more signs of what we want, so be it at long as it doesn't keep getting pushed farther away from our grasp and I'm very optimistic it wont as we close out the yr. I will say, my mood has definitely gotten better now that I've had the grass whitened twice and I'm just trying to now not let the bummer start to December get to me like it normally would and was.. It does zero good to let something like lack of snow get you so negative it starts effecting real life when we have no control over the weather. Also, agreed with what Stebo said, the Euro/ensembles (recently the 18z GFS perhaps as well) is showing some notable continuity towards a stormy pattern and people are throwing in the towels... Good post. But I hope people don't take weather that seriously. Though one never knows on here... BTW, you ever looked at January 1973? Wow, what a disaster for MKE, in what should be the heart of winter. I'm working on a little something for you Milwaukee folks and I just came across that month. TimChgo9
I am not going to shout "winter cancel" or anything of the sort. After last winter, I will wait until snow is falling AND accumulating, before I start saying anything about a snow storm. I have read that the ensembles are showing some activity in the 15th-18th time frame, well, I'll wait until then. After this absolutely awful summer (from both a health, and weather standpoint) I am looking forward to winter, even if it's only 3 weeks long in the month of January.... I was born in January 1974 and grew up with some good snow yrs. Its know wonder I'm a snow weenie. BTW... If you still have the Milwaukee snowfall data going back to the 1800's you sent me back in March could you pretty please send it to me again.. For some reason it hasn't been showing up anymore more in the message you sent me. If its easier and you still have the Excel format you could send it to me at [email protected]. Thanks so much! wisconsinwx
Euro shows clear west based blocking (-NAO) in the 7 to 10 day range, the stormy range. Given the Euro's track record, I'm sticking a fork in most of the pre Christmas snow potential. Maybe the storm progged around Christmas can actually pan out, but I'm not holding my breath. It'd be easier to just not expect any snow until then and save the frustration later.

IWXwx
I picked up 0.1" overnight, thanks to the lake effect band sweeping through. FWA also picked up 0.1" by midnight, bringing their seasonal total to a whopping 0.7". We've had numerous measurable events already, 0.1, 0.4, 0.1, 0.1. What's to complain about? lol
BowMeHunter
Okay, who hacked BowMe's account? lol, right! Its a good thing I first only found the weather forums when I did in the mid 2000's.. From Dec 1998 through December 2004 every December except that freak one in 2000 were horrible one way or another. 2005 was right around avg snowfall and below normal temps, but only had 1.7" total snowfall the last 17 days and the last 10 days of the month were well above freezing. 2006 started out with a bang on the 1st but went on to torch and only snow once more (0.9") that month. Thankfully there was 2000, 2007, 2008, and the one storm in 2006 or there would be nothing much worth remembering of the past 15 Decembers here.
