H2Otown_WX
We go through this every year seemingly, though it definitely feels worse this year. Probably because last winter was so bad. Unless you live up in the mountains of NNE, your climo deserves very little right now. If you can somehow be patient enough to last the first week of December before your head exploding, the pattenr looks pretty favorable after that. Good post. Also considering the fact (as you and others have mentioned before) we've been downright spoiled in December excluding last year, for 5 of 6 years beginning in 2005. NorEastermass128
Overrunning potential 12/1 still on the GFS. It'd be nice to get a couple inches a few days after such an annoying bust.

OSUmetstud
Hey Will, how good is your AO knowledge? I see the GFS is shooting it down to about -3.5 in the ensemble mean around Dec. 1st. Has a winter ever averaged postive after dipping so low in the daily?

Yeah the mild up looks a bit dirty in that I could see some of those days not very warm. Likely will have one pretty good torch day in there if not more, but I don't see a bunch of +12s or anything. We are in the up and down phase of this pattern transition. Actually some months is stays up and down. Remember Dec 2008? That month couldn't decide what it wanted. We ended up having a lot of snow, but temps were about +1 for the month. Had the huge ice storm out here too. I really do think we'll have a good 8-10 day opportunity leading into Christmas. OSUmetstud
The warmup won't be all the impressive with -AO/-NAO combo imo. We probably get some warmth from the Pacific...but it shouldn't have staying power or much in the way of magnitude.
