Vergent
Rusty, Thanks for the heads up. I think this topic should be in the political round-table, what I have to say about this is purely political. Verg

Big Fuel has politicized the issue to such an extent that talking about climate change without acknowledging where the disinformation, of lack of information came from is akin to ignoring the elephant - and the party whose mascot he is - in the room. It's not an America only situation. Canada has defunded facilities and muzzled researchers since Harper came into power & Larry Hamilton's paper has shown just how polarizing the issue has become. I'm still curious as to why the is situ flasks were halted just as whiffs of CH4 were beginning to be detected. Terry

It may generate more comentary there.
aslkahuna
In actuality, climate change is indeed a valid area for the CIA to be interested in. After all, they used climate data to estimate crop yields in the USSR which allowed them to determine their economic situation and the same would be at work here since crop yields, water availability, etc. are going to be major issues in the political and geopolitical arena as things develop. The Republicans in the House are, in this case, stupid but then again that can apply to all Politicians. Steve
WeatherRusty
It seems as though the CIA group conducting the analysis of climate change implications to national security had seen this coming and will continue on despite the official closing of the doors. Multiple sources with knowledge of the center said it closed its doors earlier this year, with its staff and analysis continuing under other auspices. CIA spokesman Todd Ebitz confirmed the change. "The CIA for several years has studied the national security implications of climate change," Ebitz said in a statement to Greenwire. "This work is now performed by a dedicated team in an office that looks at a variety of economic and energy security issues affecting the United States." Terry Terry, http://asl.umbc.edu/...rganov/methane/ Yurganov's methane data has been shuttered. In situ has been shuttered. The CIA has been shuttered. I do not think they shut them down, they have gone dark. Happy thanksgiving everyone. Verg
Bozart
The Republicans in the House are, in this case, stupid but then again that can apply to all Politicians. No, it can't. This country also has some very intelligent politicians who are dedicated to truth and science. No matter how many times you repeat your false-equivalency mantra, it won't make you seem sophisticated.
