The best part about the two above achievements, it's been an absolute mega torch when you look at the December average temps and departures. Though obviously the damage was done in the first half of the month.

IND through yesterday: 39.7º +7.8º

MSN through yesterday: 31.0º +7.6º

7.5" on the month and 7.7" on the season now imby. Several inches below normal but at least it's not the disaster it was prior to Christmas.

In the futility years of 2009-10 and 2011-12, I was at 5.2" and 4.0" respectively at this point. Nice to know I'm off that pace.

Good to see you getting some snow. In fact, you've got me by .5", although the slant stickers at FWA have measured 8.4". I understand you have the opposite problem at Pearson.

I'm certain relative to your climo you're way ahead of me though. 62% of normal here.

And yes, Pearson measures in inches and has a 1:1 ratio when converting to cms. It's the new math.

It is funny to see all the cities with top 10 or near top 10 snow fall amounts for December and up here in West Michigan we are looking at something on the low end of the scale. I don't have the official stats, but going in to today GRR is at 6.3" and 14.0" below normal for the month. Nothing like Central Indiana and Central Ohio and Wisconsin and .... The list goes on.

About 3 inches of snow out there...very very fluffy.

GFS shows a very cold week coming up...some -10Fs or better ? possibly. Good for making some ice.

Looks pretty dry after this.

You might be kind of cold tonight! :shiver: Maybe a little overdone.

Geos-

We cleared out about an hour ago...just in time to plummet... NWS has 0F... should be no probs with light winds and good snow cover.

Took a bike ride today...that was an adventure. My feet got soaking wet.

Took a car ride across the I 90 bridge. Mississippi River (main channel) is almost frozen...just a section near the shore (where the current runs) is still open. I can honestly say that I've walked across the Mississippi River (ice fishing many years ago). SPeaking of ice fishing...its nuts around here right now...guys out everywhere ice fishing... Tis the season!

Hard to believe how much warmer Chicago has been compared to us, with their lack of sub freezing days. We've had 8 days alone this month have highs in the 20s, including a 21 on the 21st. Just goes to show how much a little snow cover and being away from a big metro area can do to temps.

Point has us down to 6 tonight. Snowpack getting pretty glacieristic/stale now, so not sure if we'd been colder with some fresh cover or not. seems to make a difference sometimes.

Down to 11. Pretty cold but not that unusual for this time of year. No sub-zero temps in the near future. Might make it deep into January before any sub-zero temps become a possibility. The lack of sub-zero cold the last 3 years is just bizarre.

Looks like our one snow event back on Dec 20th will be all we get until at least mid Jan. At least the snow we received has been maintained by the seasonal cold. Outside of the one system this season has been pretty faggy so far for these parts. Hopefully things pick up from mid Jan on.

So I just noticed my car has snow on it again. I go outside to the snowboard and we have gotten a fresh 0.3" of fluff this morning and its snowing out. We couldnt buy a flake the first 20 days of December, and since then the snow keeps coming, forecast or not smile.png

Low of 9 F at 4 am, light snow being reported at the airport associated with a low cloud deck, probably from weak frontogenetic forcing as warmer air pushes in from the west. A balmy -1 C at 850 over north-central Iowa, in contrast to -10 C over Greenbay. By Tuesday morning the cold air will be back with avengeance.

Already 23.5" of snow in Madison this winter, what a comeback. With a sudden stratospheric warming imminent I think we'll easily see some more storms, and there's alot of cold air to work with at the moment.

I've been following that as well. It looks to rival the Jan. 2007 SSW event!

Down to 11° here this morning. Coldest morning so far for the season.
