Mogget
Beautiful light snow in the Madison area. Been snowing since 5:30 AM or so; we now have about half an inch. Accumulating on everything except roads, too. If it were only a few degrees colder, so this afternoon's rain prediction fails....
michsnowfreak
Looks like Milwaukee airport tied the longest streak of no measurable snow.. Thought they might fall short with the snow this early AM but no dice. Def very minor measurable snow just west of them and at my place.. That 3 extra miles inland I have on the airport helps sometimes. Is that by you or MKE? Because that is definitely measurable snow, light as it may be. cyclone77
Picked up 0.08" of rain so far. Maybe a few more showers to go, so we may breach the tenth mark.
Jonger
Long range is starting to look a bit better, at least the models have hung onto it.... If we could have a Dec 20ish start to winter... I would be content.
michsnowfreak
Long range is starting to look a bit better, at least the models have hung onto it.... If we could have a Dec 20ish start to winter... I would be content. It would not surprise me...in fact I kinda expect....at some point in the coming days, we will have a day of longrange disaster (torchy, gradient resting north of us) that leads to meltdowns, and also a day where the longrange just wants to send down the arctic. Moral of story....take models with a grain of salt, but the pattern looks to be better. The pattern change has already occurred, but we havent seen sensible weather (well, at least snow) benefit us yet...but down the road looks good. And what I wouldnt give to lock in DT's thoughts on Dec 18th storm right now.
daddylonglegs
I think the question here, is will the snow stick until Christmas? Shows a lot of mid/upper 30Fs and sun...short days, low sun angle...probably not much melting.
Geos
Winds have gone calm. Winds starting to flip from the west out by Rockford and funneling in that colder air. High tomorrow should be about midnight.
daddylonglegs
NWS shows 16F for the HIGH tomorrow... With snowcover, should easily drop to near 0F tomorrow nite.
cyclone77
Still hovering in the upper 30s here. Could see a few flurries flying around here tomorrow morning.
Geos
I got a feeling tomorrow will under perform with teens in upstream locations! 0.33" of ice cold rain today. Trace of snow early this morning. Month is almost twice as wet as November was already!
SpartyOn
Lions vs Packers game is classic December. Love watching my team play in the snow.
Hoosier
Only 29 here right now but we had an early morning high.
Indystorm
Woo hoo! Can report that I've had my first legitimate occasional LES showers of the season IMBY. Not sticking to ground and too infrequent as of this afternoon, but at least it looks pretty when it is falling.
daddylonglegs
Low 20Fs here..mostly clouds, but did have some sunshine for about 15 minutes. Got out the roof rake and pulled snow off the roof. Big snowstorm next weekend will probably drop another 20 inches ...need to keep things cleared out. Should stay warmed tonite if the clouds can hold.
beavis1729
It's still -6 in Willmar, MN at this hour...that's not too far from MSP. It hit -15 there this morning. That's crazy, especially since the airmass itself isn't really that cold for mid-December. Amazing what a deep snowpack and low sun angle will do. BowMeHunter
Yeah a total flip flop, he almost never gets things right either. If's he's almost never been right the last 20 yrs we should all be able to have a successful career as a private meteorologist, living where ever we desire while never having to leave the comfy confines of our log cabin to work like John Dee. michsnowfreak
A few weenie flakes here tonight. Sky has that snow look. Feels like winter too. Take what you can get... No snow here since Nov 25th (we had flakes 2 days in Oct, 6 days in Nov, and none so far in Dec)....but I said the SAME thing earlier to my friend when we were out and about...classic winter snow sky, if only it would snow! Thunder Road
Actually had a legit coating today, with light snow/sleet from roughly 4 to 7 pm. Sidewalks on campus stayed wet the whole time and now the coating has mostly melted again.

turtlehurricane
Beautiful light snow drifting to the ground in Madison, crisp winter night with a temperature of 28 °F. The flakes are nice and fluffy from -10 °C and lower 850s, pretty good temp for optimal super saturation with respect to ice and thus snow growth. cyclone77
Flurries that were predicted here today never materialized. Last flakes fell back on Nov 11, or a month ago. Feel pretty privileged to have been one of the few around this area to have already received a measurable snow. QC is 10 days away from breaking the longest streak without a measurable snow, just like Chicago.
