I want to see a winter forecast from a favorite met that calls for above normal temps and drought for once. It seems it never happens around here.

They are around but they aren't favorites of wish casters. Last year and this year I've seen a few mets not go all cold and stormy with their forecasts. I highly respect those guys as well for saying how they feel and not hyping every pattern as good and having potential regardless of if they are viewed as a favorite. Warm or dry doesn't sell subscriptions making jb and others sellouts to the might dollar IMO.

jb called for a warm winter in the southeast last year. I think he pretty much went with nina climo for the us.

Strawman. He blew his winter call last year on a national level and is well on his way this year as well.

I am trying to get at his emotional comments. 

 

Cancelling winter to dam cold outbreaks within 24 hours is too much for me, and most of the board obviously. 

 

 

I guess I understand about the paid subscriptions and all...about how they never long range forecast drought and warmth.

Lol no. His forecasts are cold each year. The only winter he nailed was the 2009-10 winter. Last year he was going all iceage like he does every winter.

Last year he forecasted a warm winter for us and we wouldn't get anything.  Then just like most he changed in November and busted like all of the rest.  I agree state facts if you going to bash any met. I love those that know everything about nothing especially when they don't pay for the website?  Or do they

Here is an awesome writeup on the Carolina Crusher 2000. Notice the first chart showing the Positive NAo and negative PNA throughout that January, then around the 18th they flipped temporarily for about 10 days and produced one of the greatest 8 day stretches of winter weather in North Carolina history. Also a great lesson on why not to hinge your forecast just on models but use them as tools.

  All he said was.  IF the EURO weeklies are correct it would mean his forecast(for cold) would be wrong.  What the EURO weeklies are saying would mean the end of winter for the US.

 

 

There is no forecast at all from JB in that statement.  You can't make things up, attribute them to someone else and then criticize them for being wrong.

I have been talking about this all winter and that storm is the only thing giving me hope. That winter sucked overall, but those 10 days made up for it. There was another decent snow a few days before the crusher. Maybe this winter will be like that and we'll get one huge snow instead of three or four minor ones. It seems ever since 2000 and that storm our snow around here has been very hit or miss.

I remember that 2 week winter very well.MLK monday.The forecast was for around 4 in of snow for our area.When we woke up tuesday morning we had 8 inches.A clipper came down on wednesday and gave us 6 more inches.The following sat we were forecast to get sleet and freezing rain.It mixed and chaged to all snow .with another 6 inches or so.Sonw showers followed on sun.Unfortunately we missed the big snow that Winston to Raleigh encountered.It was short but it was cold.
