Weather info in Florida

Hi Southeast,

I'm usually a NYC poster, but I'm looking for some frost information. Speaking over with WOW on twitter, we both agreed a good place to ask might be here.

I received the following email from a friend's friend

I was wondering if you knew anything about attaining weather data. I am looking into getting weather insurance for our farm, and we need to analyze the weather in the area, so that we know how often in the last 30 years the temperature went below the frost point for our crops.

He later noted

We have two farms: one is 12002 southwest kanner highway, indiantown, Florida. The other is in delray, Florida. We've been having trouble finding weather stations that are close to the farm. Noaa and fawn both have been helpful but their data doesn't go back for 30 years.

Any thoughts on this? I must admit I'm not a frost/Florida expert by any means. My own little check indicates what my friend found. I'm assuming, however, that someone who knows the business fairly well can piece it together from surrounding similar weather stations. I'm thinking there might/possibly could be a business opportunity in it for someone here, if they have the good data.

If you got any good suggestions or think you might be the "person", answer here or contact via private message.

The best 3 sites I know of for historical surface weather data are:

1. Utah Climate Center - http://climate.usurf.usu.edu/mapGUI/mapGUI.php

2. Weather Underground (key in airport code or nearest station at top) - http://classic.wunderground.com/history/airport/KCLT/2012/11/16/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA

3. NCDC

For Florida:

Sounds like a couple vantage pro2 with wx links would be in order, site surveys, proper installs, should have excellent data from both farms, real time, may be valuable to neighboring agricultural interests also and observed going forward. Equipment, install, back side data linking and setup, should be under 2k if anyone on site has experience. Just saying...
