Bunch of spoiled weenies, outside of last winter what an amazing run over the last 10 -15 years, expectations are way too high........my reality check is remembering the 80s, talk about horrific.

Another sunny perfect late fall day.

imagine this board after a decade of 80's like winter weather....

But in fairness, it didn't get rolling until the final days of December. So 12/1-4/1 is not one I ever remember. 93-94 locked and loaded big time. It's coming!

When was the last time Bos monthly Nov temp averaged below 40? , might have a shot. Too bad they do not radiate like the rest of us. My average is down to 39.6

Dec '93 had a couple of rain to snow events in my area of ern ma, but it was 12/29 that kicked it off with a big bang.

Yeah it took until that event to really get the ball rolling. We had a Grinch storm on the 21st after a solid 5-6" on 12/19 that year...the 12/19 was prob rain at first for BOS and then changed over because out in ORH it was a wet snow that dried off toward the end. Got washed away though 2 days later.

We did manage to get an inch of snow though Xmas eve night.

January 28, 1994 had the huge lakes cutter too...that was the storm where Harvey Leonard was on and said "you might be thinking 'how can it rain tomorrow with temps near 0F right now?'"...that was a brief torch though, only lasted 6 hours.

But everyone seems to forget the ugly torch about 5 days after the 2/11/94 event. It lasted about a week and started putting a dent in the snow pack. We reloaded though at the end of the month and then March '94 rocked for the first 3 weeks.

Probably not gonna make it though, they would have to average 33 from here on out.

BOS has only ever averaged below 40F for November twice since its been at Logan Airport in 1921. It happened in 1936...lol. Not a harbinger of that winter. The other time was 1933.

They came close in 1967 (40.1F) and 1996 (40.3).

I always am surprised at how cold Nov 1996 was. That's a top 5 cold Nov at ORH too.

It was like 8F with OES snow from srly winds aloft on the 27..lol. I remember that. People forget about the Jan 4th gravity wave too. That gave some ferocious winds where I was in Brockton. 60+mph wind drive mix..lol. Logan gusted to 66 in that.

I barely remember that torch, but March worked our fairly well. That St Pattys day storm was decent.

One of the Jan '94 events was the one where the south shore was getting heavy OES while it was ripping sleet pellets from a warmer layer much higher up. They were getting dendrite production at like 875-900mb, lol. The low levels were so cold and the warm layer was way up at like 725-750mb. I wish I could find the case study paper on that.

But heavy OES while getting synoptic scale sleet. That is wild.

the last time the average nov temp for boston was <40 was in 1936, although 1996 was close (40.3).

for what it is worth (which is nothing), the winter of 36-37 doesnt look too impressive. dec: 34.9, jan: 37.4, feb.: 33.2, mar: 34.1

edit: it looks like someone beat me to the punch with this info. :)

We talked about that before, but I can't specifically remember that...maybe I just missed it where I was. It may have been 1/8?

and then we had the brutally warm 96-97 winter...only one event down this way-14 inches in early Feb if I recall correctly....
