Clinch Leatherwood
talk about the weather being in cruise control...another day of sunshine to varying amounts of high clouds...40's/20's... Not here. Another day of mostly cloudy although I may have seen a partial ray of sun. temp stuck around 45-47 again. Worst November ever.

Another sunny perfect late fall day. imagine this board after a decade of 80's like winter weather....
OSUmetstud
Near within 5 days top analogy to this weekend is a PF special. 12/29/09 but there are 3, Nov 1995 analogy reference for the week before the Highzenberg 1995 storm. I bet you posted that to make me happy.

OSUmetstud
Would be great to see LES, are you guys expecting any? some on Saturday to Sunday from the first trough, but doesn't look classic by any means. Maybe advisory/low end warning for the southern tier and a coating for BUF and the Niagara Frontier?
weathafella
then there is 93/94 But in fairness, it didn't get rolling until the final days of December. So 12/1-4/1 is not one I ever remember. 93-94 locked and loaded big time. It's coming!

Yeah it took until that event to really get the ball rolling. We had a Grinch storm on the 21st after a solid 5-6" on 12/19 that year...the 12/19 was prob rain at first for BOS and then changed over because out in ORH it was a wet snow that dried off toward the end. Got washed away though 2 days later. We did manage to get an inch of snow though Xmas eve night. January 28, 1994 had the huge lakes cutter too...that was the storm where Harvey Leonard was on and said "you might be thinking 'how can it rain tomorrow with temps near 0F right now?'"...that was a brief torch though, only lasted 6 hours. But everyone seems to forget the ugly torch about 5 days after the 2/11/94 event. It lasted about a week and started putting a dent in the snow pack. We reloaded though at the end of the month and then March '94 rocked for the first 3 weeks.
ORH_wxman
Probably not gonna make it though, they would have to average 33 from here on out. BOS has only ever averaged below 40F for November twice since its been at Logan Airport in 1921. It happened in 1936...lol. Not a harbinger of that winter. The other time was 1933. They came close in 1967 (40.1F) and 1996 (40.3). I always am surprised at how cold Nov 1996 was. That's a top 5 cold Nov at ORH too.
Typhoon Tip
Quick comment on the 00z Euro: regardless of any coastal - "Told ya so!" That huge rebound warm sector from the previous runs was as hugely suspect, and now we see it. Now ... watch it happen anyways - haha - but no, doubt it. What year was that aweseome 48 plus hour event in December, where they were clearing off feet and feet of snow at the Pats / Miami game? It was the first weekend or so - maybe 1999/2000? People forget about the Jan 4th gravity wave too. That gave some ferocious winds where I was in Brockton. 60+mph wind drive mix..lol. Logan gusted to 66 in that. I barely remember that torch, but March worked our fairly well. That St Pattys day storm was decent.

They were getting dendrite production at like 875-900mb, lol. The low levels were so cold and the warm layer was way up at like 725-750mb. I wish I could find the case study paper on that. But heavy OES while getting synoptic scale sleet. That is wild.

My average is down to 39.6 the last time the average nov temp for boston was <40 was in 1936, although 1996 was close (40.3). for what it is worth (which is nothing), the winter of 36-37 doesnt look too impressive. dec: 34.9, jan: 37.4, feb.: 33.2, mar: 34.1 edit: it looks like someone beat me to the punch with this info.
