Stuffing and Snow - Late November Banter and Obs

He is going deep for the entire winter.

December and January very well could be colder than normal. Perhaps February too if some models are right. Euro seasonal hints at this which maybe he is riding knowing him. If we can try to get this to continue acting weaker and west based as its doing now, it could end up being snowy.

There are going to be people who flip out over this but before we probably transition to a much more favorable pattern we may have to deal with something like a cutter or a storm track that screws many of us...but it would be a system like this that helps to change the pattern.

The one thing I like right now is of all the signals being thrown at us nothing is like what we were seeing going into last winter and with what we are seeing I do think this winter will be good...but with that we still have to be patient b/c it could take time to get there but it is only mid-November.

Sorry Paul, Your wrong KFS says there can't be any cutters in this pattern

I said the same but was supposedly told otherwise

I seriously used to let Kevin influence my forecasts but I don't anymore. We know he just likes to stir the pot and it's all pure entertainment and I do like it.

Even in a -NAO though we can still get a cutter, it just all depends on where the -NAO block is situated, how strong the blocking is, and how the pattern is configured just to our west.

He may think a cutter would be bad but in reality a cutter could end up being our friend.

Well for you it very well may not be a warm storm given your latitude....possibly even interior SNE. We don't quite have a good -NAO until whatever the heck that thing is, moves through. I don't know why people fear that so much...lol. Sometimes we have to go through those in a transition.

And it probably won't be that warm of one, But it would be a messy one , I am suppose to be cold and dry all winter, I have been warned............lol

A long walk tonight in chilly late autumn air. This season is a throwback. I reflected on the feelings I've had heading towards winter over the decades. I remember the late 50s which often featured a very cold push in late November (highs subfreezing for a day) followed by milding up but always winter would deliver significant snow in December. I recall the autumn of 1960 being chilly but I also remember a hellaceous torch the first week of December. My father and his friend procured hard to come by tickets for the Giants/Cowboys game 12/4/60. The Cowboys were something like 0-7 in this, their first season. The game ended in a 28-28 tie. But I was pretty downcast about the near 70 degree day it was played in. Despite the chilly fall, we were torching in early December. As the week progressed, I kind of remember temperatures settling into the 40s for highs, around 30 for lows. The following weekend was unremarkeable until I awoke on Sunday and immediately turned on my little radio to check the weather. Things haven't changed in the past 52 years other than now it's internet. I hear the temperature of 22 degrees and immediately jumped out of bed....12/11/60. I then hear something else that both shocked and delighted me...."a heavy snow warning is in effect for late today through tonight for snow fall in excess of 4 inches....the snow may mix with or change to rain in some locations....". 14 years old...full weenie mode. I happily bound down the stairs and my mother hands me the broom and tells me it's time to sweep the garage which had all the oak leaves and dirt accumulate. Garage is facing north, her "punishment" is my delight. I head out...temps now down to 19. Cirrus ....the good painbrush type is gathering in the sky. The wind is north and freshing.

After finishing the garage I go with my mother to the store to pick up stuff for a family dinner later that day. Eyes pealed (now with slate gray overcast...snow sky) and I have butterflies in my stomach. I'm waiting for flakes. We get home, I turn on the TV for the Giants game in Washington to play the Redskins. I see heavy snow on the screen and my brain screams...it's coming!!!

Finally around 3 PM light snow begins. It stays quite light and 9PM nothing more. I'm starting to worry. However around 9:30 I notice that snow is increasing and by 11 another 2 inches have fallen. I fall asleep. I awaken at 5:30 AM to a howling 9 degree blizzard with 18 inches in the bank already!!!!!! 12/11-12, 1960 was among the great blizzards of my life. A few days later the pattern lifted out but came back in a vengeance for January with the JFK inauguration KU and the end of pattern huge dump 2/4/61. A winter I'd relive in a heartbeat. But don't forget the torch 12/4/60. And never forget to keep hope alive!

I was an embryo so I dont either, one good thing I remember about snow storms when I was a kid is we were never out of the game, they could forecast a storm was going to go out to sea and miss us but you always had that hope they were wrong, and they're accuracy back then was of course much less than it is now.

While I was at that point an unfertilized ova, I can totally relate to this post! Sounds like me EXACTLY in early Feb 1978, Dover DE, with my weather radio, listening, listening, listening to some change in the voice of the national weather service guy reading the forecast discussion...because a change in the voice meant an update. Then waking up every hour or 2 to check the outside light. This was the first heavy storm of my life, that I remember, and it was the birth of my weenieness.

I think you are right about this winter...it actually has the feeling.
