2012-13 Lakes/Midwest/Ohio Valley Season Snowfall

VERY nice comback for Muskegan!

After a disastrous start (through 12/20), DTW is now in the green! Through Feb 3rd: 25.4" +0.6". We will be adding to this today and tomorrow.

That is for sure! It has been all lake effect/enhanced too. Since it compacts a ton, we have not been able to get much more than a foot for snow depth. It is very beautiful though.

Similar here.  We haven't gotten quite as much as Muskegon using GRR stats, but I believe my location is probably about the same as what blackrock is seeing.

I can see the high ratios point several ways. What is the difference between a 5" snowfall at 25 degrees and 0.25" liquid equivalent and a 2.5" snowfall at 25 degrees and 0.25" liquid equivalent? It's the same amount of snow, just different crystalline structure.

It's kind of like a small child who thinks that a nickel is worth more than a dime because it's bigger.

3" of fluff on 0.05" is not more snow than 1" on 0.10" in my book.

Good job, Tim. Nice compilation.

I am one of the few that can say that this year is even worse than last year. FWA is in the running for biggest loser.

Thanks Butch.

I don't have the exact numbers, but KTIM is probably running somewhere in the 6-7" range behind last year. Not the biggest loser, but not great either.

After the system on Thursday the areas suffering from lack of a 3" snowfall in far northern IL could be taken off this map. Small area of SC WI of course was taken out too. Little bit trimmed near Battle Creek where over 3" fell Thursday night-Friday morning. ORD is just a few miles from the outside edge of the shaded area.

Now we are down to a pretty small area of sub 3" snow system snowfalls. Basically the southern LOT cwa and the northern ILX cwa. Few small areas where there have been scattered 3" amounts including the heart of Chicago and still... ORD.

If dry air wouldn't have been as big of an issue with this last storm, I may have been able to unshade everything, except maybe the area east of South Bend.

The fact that this map still exists this late in the season in this region is ****ing pathetic.

Totally. Any other winter, it would have been gone by New Years. It's just been really IL and a bit of IN in this screw hole. 0z GFS would pretty much wipe this out.

Hideous seasonal snowfall total for London. They should be closing in on 80" by this time in the winter. Seems like when the LES finally kicked in across the region it still found a way to play hide and seek with the forest city.

Most of the NW flow central and southern lake effect locations are doing poorly, see London, CLE, MFD, SBN, GRR.

We've been screwed over in some incredible ways as far as LE has gone.   I've twice seen NW flows over L. Michigan,  Georgian Bay,  L. Ontario,  and Northern L. Huron, only to see the flow veer west or SW about the thumb of Michigan, so we get nada.   Once I can deal with, twice in the span of a week or two, I'm going  WTF?  I would estimate we've probably had about 5" total in LE for the season, so we basically have the same total as Detroit or Toronto.    Despite the crappy totals, we've had good snowcover in MBY and I probably have about 6" in the yard, so even tho' the total is less than last year, it feels more winterlike,  still ****ty however........

Wow, that sucks man. Yeah LES has been quite unfavorable for many regions this year. I'm surprised the GTA got so many this year. Usually London sees incredible amounts each year because of LES, but only 5" this year, wow. In other winters you guys would get that in like November alone, lol.

Hopefully you guys get a little surprise LES event to end the season off.

That would be nice but very unlikely.  The best LES  mths are usually Nov through Jan.   These things tend to even out, so you take it for what it is.......  it's probably pay-back for Dec 2010.   Back to back low snowfall years make it a bit harder to swallow.

Yeah you guys got pounded in Dec 2010, i remember that. But oh well, its hard to swallow but its just one Winter without decent LES for your region, hopefully next year is just like 2010-11. A majority of your overall winter snowfall is LES,

How much have you gotten this winter so far?

42".  I don't know where to find normal YTD snowfall on EC's crummy websites, but  a guess would be about 65-70.  Seasonal avg is just over 80 inches.
