NorEastermass128
You can't be surprised by what public schools do. CT has a Constitution day. All public schools are supposed to teach the Constitution that day. Nevermind that there may be a unit in US History that spends a couple weeks on the Constitution that is actually worthwhile, that one day has been mandated by lawmakers afraid to vote against Constitution day. And since Geography is not part of the standardized tests that determine a public schools progress, nobody has a real investment in worrying about what is taught in Geography class. Don't get me started. Hope you caught Chronicle on WCVB tonight...had a nice piece on NE CT. I never knew how cool it was. Speaking of geography, I believe you're in that area. If not, I blame my public education haha EDIT: Just realized your username is NE CT D'oh
CoastalWx
It really doesn't surprise me...some people I knew didn't know where New Jersey was...PA, VA etc. I mean, maybe you don't know where Montana or the Dakotas are or something...but really? NJ and PA? GPS has made America geographically stupid.
NorthShoreWx
Not being a Met community member but a EM member I could not agree more. One thing I will say NHC did not help with the downgrade of Sandy to ET .thank god for local offices, TWC, local on airs and even the hypesters. If any situation in my memory for the NE called for hype this was it. I still want to know who advised Mayor Bloomberg. One thing I think should be introduced to the American Public is IKE surge potential. So do I. I suspect he may have been going rogue with that rediculous Saturday press conference. Everyone and his brother knew we were in for something historic...except for NYC's mayor. I suspect some sort of stereotypical hubris.
powderfreak
Squall line tonight? lol Winds have been quite gusty out of the south ahead of this today though...moving pretty good at times. Highest wind gust at the ski area base (1500ft) was 52mph with several gusts in the upper 40s. At the summit 73mph was the max. BTV been seeing near 40mph gusts... with the 8pm obs of 20G39 out of the south. SLK showing 25G39 SSW right now.

But given the good winds off the deck, even some showers could gust things higher.
NorthShoreWx
All EMs understand that, which makes the NHC decision even more baffling. Only people looking for textbook definitions will not agree the nonissuance of hurricane warnings lulled some folks. Heard it time and time again from media reports from interviews in worst hit areas. Does that make the GP stupid. No I just think from kindergarten on Met education emphasized ratings and Hurricane warnings. I think they pretty much have their hands tied with regulation .. which in this case at least is science based. If they are going to call it Cat1 rather than extratropical, why not just call it a Cat 3 and really get people's attention. Where does the fudging stop. I'll admit, this one was close enough that they might have been able to fudge without fudging. On the other hand, I personally get a lot more alarmed at the prospect for a 940 mb low passing 200 miles south of here than a little ol Cat 1 that was nowhere near a direct hit. One of those is something with less impact locally than Irene; the other is what we got. The problem as I see it is created by the media and politicians, not the NHC. Bloomburg is responsible for some of the fatalities in NYC, not NOAA.

Heisy
Meaning the GFS shows a pretty good pattern in the 13-16 day range. Does anyone else always feel like November is the toughest month of the year for us winter nuts. It takes forever to get to December & we constantly stress about the Long Range. Nice shot of snow on the backside of this front, about 1/2" and snowing heavily at home at 5:30. Snowing but not sticking at work at 1400' elev. 60's the past couple of days and accumulating snow today, gotta love it.
Damage In Tolland
What a nasty hot ,humid run this morning. It was like mid July out there. It was 59/59 when I left the house at 5:00. In fact, I even heard crickets chirping in a few areas in the woods. Wind started to pick up as I was out there. Massive downpour just moved thru and temp has crashed to 49.5..10 degree drop immed. with the front.. It's coming for you sweathogs farther east. moneypitmike
LOL I had an affinity for maps/geography too. In elementary school, I'd watch TWC on loop for hours poring over regional maps of the US. My parents were concerned. Well, now I'm in law school... You're apparently much younger than I. No TWC in my youth. What I got was the NOAA Weather tv broadcast which just played a loop recording. It would be exciting though if a watch/warning were hoisted because the loop would run longer. Same monotone voice. Yup. MPM will be dragging out the shawl again, cozying up by the fire with a good book. Classic one, Jeff. Actually, that's how I kind of look now (and most mornings). But, not usually reading Star Trek. lol 42/

CoastalWx
The euro ensembles have a massive pig ridge in the Aleutians, I mean massive. There is still the GOA low, but that spills cold into Canada and at least allows some of it in here I would think.
