Thanks. And oh my. What did Chicago get? Detroit got 13.8".

Storms in the "old days" when there were fewer obs sites make you wonder if sometimes the jackpot area of a major storm is unknown. The coop observers in the old days took every bit as much care, if not more, than coop observers do today. It was just there were fewer of them back then. These days, pretty much most areas are covered.

Chicago got 15.0", but they list the date of the storm as December 17-20, 1929 on their website.

And yes it does make one think about who the true "winners" were back in the day, with a more sparse spotter network. Of course even today I suppose it's possible true "winners" of storms fall into areas without observers, although less likely than the early 1900's one would think.

Who knows. I've seen some crazy $hit around here. Clowns all around.

I tell you what...owning a snowmobile the last 4 years would have been awesome around here. You can go almost anywhere by snowmobile if you have snowcover. You could probably make it to Madison, WI and I know for a fact you can make it to Hayward, WI from La Crosse.

The xmas eve storm definitely looks like it could happen. Even the Euro is on board. This storm looks like it will have more moisture to work with as well, so it could end up being a better performer than the clipper fest we've been enjoying.

Another morning near zero here. Dropped to 2 above, and probably won't make it out of the teens. The snowpack isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It's so dense it's not settling either. Still at 7 inches.

When I went through London on the train last Wednesday, we came in through the northeast side I think. The snow was up to the eaves on bungalows. Have you been out to that area yet?

Yes, I live in the SW and work in the NE so I get to see the whole works. You're basically right. Just to the east of central London looks to have the most, but in a somewhat unusual situation, the whole city has basically the same amount - we have almost as much as the hardest hit area which was miles to the east. Driving is really tough - almost every corner at a stop sign is blind where the snowbanks are so high you can't see oncoming traffic until you edge out onto the roadway.
