Interesting AFD out of GRR this morning. They give a pretty good description of their thoughts regarding the upcoming week and potential snow in West Michigan. Looks like snow chances may be improving for those of us inland a few miles. Maybe a little IMBY going on here, not sure.

Mr Marino ( WDM ) always lays it out nicely.

In short. What we need to happen for the Mon/Tues system to work out is for the possible eastcoast storm to head right on out to sea and not ride up the coast.

Couldn't ask for a better first half of December for here.

Temp departure through yesterday: -10.5º

Snowfall through this morning: 13.1"

What I wouldn't give to have the above numbers/conditions continue for the next 2-3 months (with a big snowstorm or two thrown in). Of course we'd shatter the all time coldest winter record with that pace, but the snowfall isn't unreasonable... :guitar:

Here's the sequel December general discussion thread as the original is approaching 1,000 posts.

How's December 2010 treated you thus far?

Here, I'm already approaching 9" for the month, which was the high end of my prediction. With half the month remaining, hopefully I'll at least get to average.

I've had 7.1" so far here. After no snow in Nov., I've received at least a trace every day in Dec. except one (11th). Several days of trace amounts included flurries off of the lake. However, my greatest one-day total is 2.3" and my greatest snow depth has been 2.5".

So far, another winter of nickle and dimes here in the FWA area.

I'm not sure about here locally daddy. Chicago is sitting at 20.3º through yesterday, which would place them at 11th coldest if the month ended today.

17.0...1985

17.4...1989

18.4...1872

19.4...1876

19.6...1950

Indy would be in the top 10 coldest though, as they're sitting at 22.9º through yesterday.

18.5...1963

18.8...1989

19.8...2000

20.2...1983

meh this winter is nothing to write home about in either of the towns i live in right now. south mississauga has seen about 3-4 inches so far. the university town (kitchener) i live in has seen a bit better with probably close to 10-12 inches so far. the biggest thing so far is that its been so cold so most of the snow is staying.

Yeah, in the Greater Toronto area, it's been fairly mediocre the closer to Lk Ontario you go. North of the 401 though it's been a different story, and I've caught the southern scraps of that. EC HQ in North York had 8"+ snow just from the December 6th event. Their data only updates once a week (usually Mondays/Tuesdays), but adding the stuff we've seen this week, they're probably well over a foot for Dec.

I think that is what is giving me the bitter taste about this winter. In the gta i miss the squalls by 10-20 km that give the northern and eastern areas the 2-4 inches every couple days. Kitchener is even worse, i might get the 1-2 inches every couple days but 30-45 mins down the 401 and they have feet. but its not a complete disaster because in kitchener and especially here in mississauga getting much more than a trace out of snowsqualls is rare.

Even though we'll probably slow down on the snow pace (don't think we'll be getting like 12" every 2 weeks) and temps will certainly modify, it's been a nice start.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as trace. The average Lk Huron/GB squall gives us dusting to a coating (<2cm), but the kind of accumulations the north side of Toronto's seen, you're right, are very unusual. If it wasn't for the LES this December would be a colder version of December 2006, which if you don't remember, was a complete disaster.

Euro monthly is out:

http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/anderson/story/43105/updated-computer-forecast-for-the-winter-1.asp

Keeps the blocking in the east but not as much as December.

Depressing here, looks good for you in the Lakes.

I must be losing it as i had thought i mentioned these last night but ala don't see it. :axe:

They have a more classic looking Nina look in Feb with a hint of the ole se ridge. At this point i'll take anything rather then the status quo but yeah they do look ok for this region. meh It is a model so i would not get too excited or bent out of shape yet.

7.8" on the season imby and 7.9" at DTW...by far the highlight of which was the Dec 12th snowstorm. After snowfall day in and day out but which amounted to almost nothing the first week+ of Dec, we had a wonderful snowstorm on the 12th. Dropped 6.3" of snow but due to the fact that the temperature dropped some 20 degrees during the snowstorm, a unique mix of wet snow that froze solid and powder that drifted left things much more entertaining than a typical 6-inch snow. Been quiet since with quite a bit of sun, but it looks and feels liks mid-winter moreso than mid-Dec :)

A nice light snow falling right now, with pretty good sized dendrites. These flakes are considerably larger than what we had last night through most of the day. Picked up 3.0" from the overnight and early morning snows, but added another 0.4" so far in addition. The snow depth is back up to a solid 7 inches, with the bottom 3 inches frozen white cement.

With the potential of another system in here on Monday, and the lack of warmth, a white christmas here looks like a lock.
