November obs and banter

Kinda disagree. If it is snowing in MDT or PHL, most guaranteed to be snowing in York and Lancaster. Not necessarily the case if it is snowing in BWI and PHL.

Being further north does help. have seen slopfests in northeast MD, and then heavy snow right across the border. Many events like the Christmas storm in 2002 and Halloween snowstorm brought us several inches of snow, where it was nothing once you got to BWI.

I always appreciated your obs...plus you don't have a forum you really fit into nicely...We are as appropriate as ohio valley or perhaps more so....There is a specific forum for south central PA...it is mentioned exactly in the description of the forum....the 2 aren't remotely analogous....I'd expect someone in South central PA to post in the forum that specifically says "south central PA"...I don't really see the need for interpretation there

i wasn't calling him out in any way. i should have expected he might take it that way perhaps.

i'd say the guy 40 miles from balt has a pt but i don't care enough to argue it. subforums have always sucked a bit.

lol...I wonder who you are referring too. smile.png

Anyway, we're transferring to Houston this summer so you guys only have to put up with my occasional obs a few more months.

I have also always enjoyed your obs, and could often consider them the upstream version of what to expect here hours later, even as different as our weather could be at times. Sorry to see you go, but all the best with the move.

It's really stupid to make a big deal out of it (not directed at you). If I'm someone that works in the Baltimore metro area and live 5 miles north of the border in Shrewsbury, I probably have an interest in the weather for both locations and I'm not going to be posting in two separate subforums. When I want to report on the weather while at work I post in one forum and while at home I post in another?? Yeah, sure.

They aren't perfect, but most occasional browsers aren't facile enough to sift through pages and pages to find germane information....I never understood how a general forum was useful for someone who checks in for 15 minutes once or twice a day

i've never understood why people get bent out of shape seeing obs from an area that is no further than areas they already see obs from. the sub-forums are well established at this point so whatever but i think there was always some question and leeway to the edges. plus forky is in the new england thread posting obs from nj lol.

Forky is an exception to every rule.

maybe because i follow justin berk on fb but i sorta consider that part of S PA as part of our region. weather seems quite similar to n md. obviously once you're talking like central pa or something it becomes a bit more questionable but if you're in hanover, york, etc. it could really go either way imo. snow weenies...

me and you are in the 99th percentile of board users....someone from Northern VA looking for pertinent discussion of our weather is not going to get any benefit from seeing Ray and Kevin talking about weenies and mt Tolland.....the general forum was for entertainment purposes only...it had no practical application...threads that reach 1000 posts in 3 hours are catering to 100 posters when there are thousands....most people do not use the internet in the rapid fire manner that we do...

you're sort of right and sort of wrong. it's kind of about the limitations of a platform like this. but your argument doesn't fly well against the uber popular social sites that have one big bucket that users can self configure. in a lot of senses the subforums are the same they're just broken up. you know as well as i do a page of a new england thread flies by in like 5 minutes.

Funny how a little snow can bring out so much fighting. During the Derecho i don't remember someone saying i lost my roof and the other guy saying oh im pissed i wish my whole house got destroyed.

I always saw this forum as hopefully being welcoming to people who aren't that technically adept....you don't want to alienate the H***ward's of the world who don't know how to self configure or what buckets are...But yes...it is not an ideal interface either way...it mainly caters to a smaller group of regs...which maybe it should anyway since we use it the most and contribute the most

true... good pts

the northern fringe crew generally only show up when they are getting snow and we aren't...otherwise they aren't usually anywhere to be found

if someone's here in good faith all yr not sure they should be told to go somewhere they don't enjoy but if this is the case then it's kinda stupid and/or cross-region trolling.

I was joking a bit but there is a definite shift in climo along the elevated regions near the pa border. It's a bit of a different world up there. Heck, I worked in Mt. Airy for 5 years and that was only 32 miles from my house but it was very different even there.

I really don't mind anybody in "the fringe" posting. As long as they are consistent and provide useful information along the way. It's a collective effort to provide analysis, obs, and info and anyone who can provide that is more than welcome.

On the flip side, if you only show up to post snow obs when you know damn well nobody down this way is getting snow then your intentions aren't genuine. It's just childish behavior to rub things in other people faces to make yourself feel better. The know who they are and they should stay out of here.

I know Ian wasn't calling me out...I was just playing along with him...:)

I just post once in a while so I really don't get wrapped up in the forum protocol, but I see your point about PA already having two of their own forums.
