November obs and banter

lol- you're on me today!

I'm just having some fun because the longwave pattern remains friendly as we get close to the end of the month.

Heck, 12z euro @ 192 has h5 heights over GL so high that the glacier is getting compacted.

I'll be happy if we can get the AO above 3 SD at the beginning of Dec. Then I'll at least be positive that we see an extended period with a negative AO this winter as even when it breaks, it should come back.

After the data we poured over last year it really is a big deal in Dec. An anomalous AO can make or break Dec-Jan at the very least and even part of Feb. I've really been enjoying Coastalwx and Co's strat and polar vortex discussion. They picked up on early good signs a couple weeks ago and it looks like the call may validate. Odd certainly seem to favor splitting it and letting the AO tank. Time will tell of couse.

Anything but a big +ao right? Neutral in Dec is far from a kiss of death. I have set proper expectations this year for sure. I'm not thinking we have a big winter at all. Just a winter that feels like "winter". No reason to think otherwise...yet.

I have a feeling at some point this winter it will be cold enough to snow but it all depends on a storm with moisture arriving into that cold. At another point it will be milder as well. I sure hope we get some snow during the cold point because during the mild time it might just be rain.

I'm digging my flamethrower out of the closet to try to defend DCA Sunday morning, but I may need help from the river...

It's nice how even in a cold November DCA manages to get its first freeze later than normal.

Your logic is undeniable.

The -PNA is going to screw things up. I know it is the GFS but it seems to be the ever present feature on every run through 384. It never goes away. The -NAO seems like it will just serve to keep us from torching. I feel like December is not going to be all that great for us and we may look back at the deep -NAO/ -AO on the 31st and say "if only the Pacific would have cooperated" and this great pattern will have been wasted. But I know nothing so I put this in the banter post.
