The ASOS precip sensor has a response time and sometimes when snow increases at the last second it won't change the intensity modifer in time for the report even though the visibility changes. Manned stations will correct this in time. The machine did this all the time at KGFK and we would have to send out COR's if we didn't catch it in time because the machine would suddenly change the ob if we didn't "lock it in" before the observation went out.
