somethingfunny
I'm a bit surprised that the tornado watch extends out to the west of Tyler. I can't really imagine that second band really doing anything - the main band already extends from Texarkana to Tyler.
Buckeye05
I see a few spots where it looks like some spinups are trying to develop, but they seem to be having trouble intensifying. Mostly looks like a wind threat for the time being.

David Reimer
This is actually starting to look interesting: I'm watching the cell near Linden and the complex of storms near Longview. They've had weak circulations over the past 15 minutes, but nothing too concentrated yet.

andyhb
Why did they try to "fix" something that wasn't broken? Agreed, for example, the 1500 m threshold goes against the findings in Craven and Brooks '04, which suggested that most strong/violent tornadoes occur with MLLCL heights less than 1200 m, and often less than 1000 m, as the old parameters suggested. The median of MLCAPE in significant tornadic events from the article also suggested a majority of significant tornadoes occur with 750-1000 and over J/kg of MLCAPE. http://www.srh.noaa....arch_climopaper It was quite a good indicator prior to this change, for example, before April 26/27 last year, the SREF was popping a 50 area over Northern MS at its max timeframe (87 hrs out), which gave a pretty good indication that something extraordinary was about to happen. Multiple other events (4/15/11, 3/2/12, 4/14/12, 4/24/10, 5/24/11, just off the top of my head) with 40-50 prob areas prior to the episode also have verified as tornado outbreaks prior to the change.
