Bloomy:

We would not want a cloud to hang over the race or its participants, and so we have decided to cancel it.

Really?, I'm sure you're also very concerned about getting your people shelter and warmth, right?

Right.

as long as we still have the ban on 16oz soda...all is good.

And the bars are open!

We had a liquor store open all week. No power, selling through a window, cash only. The line was almost as long as the gas lines. All the food establishments in my town have notices from the board of health taped to their doors, they have to be inspected before they reopen. They don't have power yet. This includes McDonalds.

Anderson Cooper is on Staten Island. Last report was all the supplies for the marathon, porta potties included, will be used in the relief effort. He said there was a long line of porta potties along the Verranzano bridge. Watching another show tonight, gentleman involved in helping with Katrina, he said this is worse than Katrina!

This sounds just awful....

TOMS RIVER — Residents are being forcibly evacuated tonight from seven Ocean County communities because of extensive repairs needed after the devastation Hurricane Sandy left behind, Seaside Height Police Chief Thomas Boyd said.

Authorities told residents they may not be able to return home for months.

“It’s looking bad. It’s a catastrophe,” Boyd said.

The towns affected are Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, island sections of Berkeley Township, South Seaside Park, Lavallette, Ortley Beach and Mantoloking.

The decision followed an afternoon meeting among the chiefs of police in the affected communities and other county authorities.

Busloads of people were being escorted out, with several residents interviewed saying police and fire officials knocked on their doors, telling them they had five minutes to pack a bag before they had to leave.

Boyd said he thinks no more than 50 people remain in Seaside Heights. He said repairs need to be done to the infrastructure of the affected areas, along with the main gas line, from Mantoloking to Island Beach State Park, which needs to be reconstructed, and should take between six and eight months.

Other repairs that need to be done include a collapsed sewer in Seaside Heights.

“We were just trying to figure out where we were going to go with this, and the best thing is to get people out of the way,” the chief said. “We’re doing mandatory evacuations to get people out. We want people to know that it’s not just for safety. It’s for other reasons so that we can get in there and work and do what we have to do.”

Residents will be able to return at some point, with police escorts, to gather their belongings.

Boyd said he fully understood the frustration residents will feel, but the evacuation are necessary to ensure their safety.

“Overall, we’re in very very good shape because we have the people in place to do the job at the right time. We’ve pretty much got Seaside on lockdown and that’s what we’ve go tot do to make it safe.”

Mary Jo Etheridge, 76, a Seaside Heights resident, said she was given about five minutes to pack a bag before she was put on a bus that took her west on Route 37 into Toms River. Her possessions were shoved into shopping bags.

There are 14,210 residential properties on the barrier island stretching south from the northern border of Mantoloking with a combined assessed value of $9.8 billion. There are 377 commercial properties, with an assessed value of $505 million. This does not include the 5,240 parcels that do not appear to have records associated with them.

The barrier island stretches for 20.4 miles, half of which has homes.

Star-Ledger staff writers Dan Goldberg, Alexi Friedman and Eric Sagara contributed to this report.

not sure it's true last I read. The guys story appears more true than hers. FYI

The neighbor said a guy was in his backyard trying to break his window. Really? The lady told the police she tried to break the window. How would the lady know a guy was back there, as the neighbor is claiming?

It didn't sink in yet, but this will haunt that guy for the rest of his life.

The lady tried throwing flower pots at the window in desperation.

Why Bloomberg would even consider such a marathon is mind-boggling.

Sounded like a good display of pride at first. As soon as he tried to work out the logistics, "Oh lets shut down a supply route for relief efforts" it was canceled. LOL politicians.

Link doesn't work for me....

Can she remember which house to let everyone know? Because if she can I am sure he is going to wish he was dead. Not only from the guilt but the harassment and getting his ass kicked he will be getting from others.

I mean who turns away a mother and two small kids with a storm raging and flood waters rising?

Very chilly out there tonight for people in the dark with no heat. :-(

The man was actually interviewed on CNN yesterday. He denies that a woman with children was knocking on his door asking to be let in. He did say there was a "man" at the bottom of his stairs during the storm, but that he wasn't asking to let him in, and that this man tried breaking into the back of his home. CNN actually showed her car, exactly where she was holding on to (there was an uprooted tree), and where his house was in relation to the tree (it was about 20 feet away, but there was what appeared to be a 5-6 foot retaining wall that she had to climb to get there). The guy looked like a creep to me, and now he is going to have to live with this for the rest of his life. I'll see if I can find the video.

That man needs to be scrutinized to no end.

I can't even imagine how someone can turn away a mother and two children. The only defense I can think of is that this man was so terrified by the weather and flooding that he was paralyzed to do anything. CNN also had a Staten Island resident who lived through the tsunami in Sri Lanka and actually made some comparisons to that.

The guy looks like a douchebag. He lives in a very large home and it was obvious he was lying to the reporter.

I hope the rest of his life is misery and I hope he is exposed more nationally and non-stop.
