This makes me want to say it figures... We spend days agonizing over .05 of qpf for today's storm, while a rain storm has no problem dumping +3 inches lol. In reality, this is probably a good thing, I think it signals the STJ is finally getting it's act together thanks in part to some favorable MJO action. We will finally have cold, and storm chances so it looks like the deck is finally stacked in the favor of cold and stormy for a few weeks after next weeks brief warmup. We could still end up dealt a bad hand, but it looks more and more like somewhere in the east is going to cash in. BTW, I recommend everyone follow the Philly sub forum medium range thread. Absolutely awesome discussion going on in there right now.

Looks like you guys are getting thumped right now.

Light snow has started in Greensburg now. A balmy 16 degrees, no worries on mixing which is nice for a chance.

Considering my location, and what I normally have to deal with in Bethel, I'll take a 2-4 snowstorm, over the typical slopstorm, any day of the week. It's nice to not have to worry about freezing rain and/or sleet for a change.

Just got home. Yes the roads are bad.

What a lot of people do not understand is the snow and the cold.

You can get 2-4 inches of snow when it is 34 degrees and most of the snow accumulates on grassy surfaces.

When you get 2-4 inches of snow when it is 16 degrees you get 2-4 inches of snow on the roads as well.

We all know this but most of the general public does not.

I saw many posts in the social media saying that we were only getting 1-3 or 2-4 today so it won't be too bad.

Temperature is everything.

I think that mostly verified. I see a good many 4" and 5" reports. It looked a little optimistic at first, but then they backed way off right before the snow started. I think the uncertainty came from high ratios because a slight shift in QPF means bigger snow differences. I think it turned out to be a good initial call, especially from the city south.

I think it was pretty high impact as well because it was so cold. I heard of some cases where it took people 4 hours on on the parkway east midday.

Yeah, I thought the initial 4 to 6 was a bit high but it looks like it ended up being a good call thanks to what we got overnight. I picked up another inch overnight which puts me at around 4.5 inches. Getting some more snow moving through this morning which will add a little more to it. Then, it'll all be gone in a few days when warmer temps and rain move in. I kind of welcome that because salt isn't good for our vehicles and I've had salt on mine all week.

The warmup next week looks short-lived, and the pattern may be more favorable into February, but conditions look dry.  We just don't have moisture to work with to get any sort of moderate to significant event.  I'm hoping the STJ starts pumping while we still have the cold around.

These last two days remind me of my younger days in the 1970's.

We would get a snowfall of yesterday, like 2-4. 3-5 inches.

Pick up an inch of light fluffy snow overnight and then pick up 1/2 inch in scattered snow showers the next day like I did today.

This is more like Winter weekends in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, having snow cover is nicer than the frigid, dusty, barren landscape we had earlier in the week(except for those in the snow band).

So far the clippers have performed well for us this season, hopefully we'll keep it going.

Also, I'm a bit concerned about monday morning, as we all know, it doesn't take much ice to create havoc in our area.
