Global warming? Lol JK. But, if we have two well above normal temperature winters something is going on around here. Someone go whip up a positive PNA.

So long as the Pacific remains unfavorable, this will be the case of the weather. Mild to warm, dry with just transient cold shots that never take hold. Regardless of the state of the NAO.

Been looking around and the consensus does seem to be that end of this month, we start winter. At least there's that. Last year, there was nothing.

12z Euro (also the UKMET) is interesting.

Just dipped below 18° here, coldest night so far this season.

A belated congratulations on the green, Jeff!

It definitely felt cold this morning, but I still have not turned on the heat in my apartment. I was also staring at the State College climatology chalkboard in the sixth-floor computer lab in Walker Building here at Penn State today and noticed that November's mean temperature was a little over two degrees below normal. It did not *seem* below normal to me, which may just be the subtle differences in climate between here and back "home" in Illinois (where, incidentally, upper teens would be rather typical for an early-December morning).

Damn, this is more than just a nuisance event if the NWS verifies:

  • Freezing rain likely after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total nighttime ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch possible.
  • Friday

Freezing rain before 9am, then rain. Patchy fog after 11am. High near 41. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible.

We are at 23.8 here.

25° here. Dewpoint is 18-20°. I never know which way these morning ZR events are going to go around here. It seems they either barely amount to anything, or hold on longer than forecast and cause more serious problems. I will not be surprised to see more than a slight coating, especially down in Bellefonte.

Just went out to walk the dog here in the Toftrees area of State College. We are hovering around freezing and have light rain. A slick coating of ice is on most leaves and limbs above ground level. Nothing on the ground or cars though.

I'm working in centre hall, and there is a very thin coating on tree branches. Not doing much at the moment.

Don't forget! If you see freezing rain or sleet, report it to the national severe storms laboratory PING project.. They are putting together new p_type algorithms for the dual_pol radars and they need ground truth data.

~Snet form a deivce that cannot speel.

Done.

We had ice on the sidewalk, side streets and cars this am, a thin coat. Was 32.4 when I left this am at 8.

Had a bit of ice on the pines this morning when I woke up to look around 9am. Nothing major to report otherwise, PennDOT was pretty well prepared for it around here putting down salt brine on all the major roads yesterday.

European continues to have a tail end wave ride up through PA back in the cold air later Tuesday. I'd say western and central thirds of PA would get a quick 1-2" from it verbatim. GFS doesn't have this and we're too far away yet to get the NAM/SREF take on the matter. Something to keep an eye on though. We seem to settle into an average regime temp wise after that with a couple possible cold shots mixed in. Longer range models have not had the constant retorch and then GLC train the last few runs, instead having a straight across bowling ball type storm track. I suspect that is the result of a forecasted decent -NAO and some relaxation of the -PNA. Most MJO forecast models also suggest finally getting out of the circle and pulsing into Phase 1, which might eventually aid building heights out west. We might not be in the deep freeze but I think we will have our chances for wintry weather as we start to near the holidays.

It has been a weird week "weather wise". Monday & part of Tuesday it looked like this. Tues afternoon I was in short sleeves and sweating. Wednesday 0100 am it was 55 degrees. And by 4:00 pm it was 39 degrees, and windy.

Picked around 0.34" of rain yesterday.

Everyone have a good weekend!

Eastern you have to quit posting porn :santa:
