Central PA - Is it really looking like Christmas?

Recommended Posts

i took notice that we were in the 30's yesterday for most of the day, late afternoon (5ish) when the wind picked up 10-12 with gusts in the mid 20's, my temp went to 45. No precip on the other side of the mighty susky either.

The weekend is looking nice, i'm not as sure as others we reach the 60's, but mid to high 50s seems reasonable.

models have 850 temps climb into the teens (oC) so it is possible surface temps at some locations do reach 60s

O/T again, but the Kocin PSU appearance has officially been cancelled sad.png

Just like the NWA conference did during their last minute NWS pull-out, we're working on an interactive, online session in one of the technology classrooms on campus. While the speaker isn't physically there, it proved to still work great at the last NWA conference as people were still able to ask questions and such through the microphone. Hopefully we'll know soon if this will work.

It probably wasn't that particular storm, although it certainly did have a sharp cutoff which I remember being on the wrong side of... but Lancaster county as a whole did very well with that one I believe. The 2000 surprise storm was much stronger and tracked right along the coastline. The lore of that storm was that it was predicted to be an out to sea glance with not very much snow even 24 hours prior. For the DC area, it didn't become apparent that it was even going to snow more than maybe an inch until less than 10 hours prior to it starting, and since that happened to be an overnight timeframe.. it was a complete surprise when everyone woke up to an all out snowstorm.

The Scott Simard/Brian Monahan Super storm...if anyone remembers them.

It looks like the front coming through Monday night could bring some areas their first snowflakes of the season. NAM and GFS both suggest precip hanging around long enough to see a quick change to snow before ending. The further west you are, the more chance you have of seeing flakes.

I loved both January storms in 2000!! Does anyone remember an inauguration day storm in 2001??? I seem to remember getting a bunch of snow when the second George Bush was being sworn in?

Yep, you can find it here: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/ctp/features/snowmaps/index.php?tab=storms

Jan 21, 2001. The map apparently was drawn by a six-year-old meteorologist.

Well...hate to take it off-topic again...but, it doesn't look like I'll be making it as a meteorologist after all...calculus is so brutal sad.png

If I could do it, you can make it. I recommend a very diligent study group. If it wasn't for the extra hours every day with my group, I would have had no chance.
