Jefflaw77
It just looks ominous outside... the sound continues to get louder- and it's more continuous now.. In addition we're having occasional power surges.. This is a storm we are going to be talking to our grandchildren about.. I have a very bad feeling in my stomach right now... SnoSki14
This is one of those storms where it deserves all the hype because it may sadly live up to it or even more. Was Irene just a warning, like a wake up call for the real thing, Sandy?

SRRTA22
Sandy has a pressure equivalent to a category 3 hurricane. wouldn't that put out roughly surge to that of a cat 3 as well?
lakeeffectkid383
Sandy has a pressure equivalent to a category 3 hurricane. wouldn't that put out roughly surge to that of a cat 3 as well? actually cat 4 pressure. TWCCraig
These winds are too weak IMO. I believe they were forecasted to be gusting 45-50mph by now. What happened? It makes me wonder if the rest of the storm will be bad at all in terms of wind.
SRRTA22
they were actually forecasted to gust up to 40 MPH until later this morning...

Common misconception, but surge is related mainly to wind, not pressure.

TWCCraig
they were actually forecasted to gust up to 40 MPH until later this morning... Not here on LI though. I just hope this storm isn't a blow, I would hate to see everyone prep and get ready for what might be only a minor wind storm. I'm not saying it will be minor. But at least if we are going to get this prep for a storm, let it rage.

SRRTA22
You did, see above. Since the pressure is that of a cat 3, would it create enough energy for cat 3 surge?
