HurricaneJosh
Up in the lower W 90s I just feel so oddly disconnected. Wind is gusting and power is flickering, but people are still going about their business. Wow-- really? My mother-- who is very stoic and matter-of-fact and tends to dismiss these things (total anti-weenie)-- and who's lived in NYC/LI her whole life-- is just like, "Whoa-- this is the worst I've seen in NYC." She said the force of the wind hitting her building-- a solid old brownstone-- was creeping her out. She says it's lessening now.
SnowGoose69
It won't stop!!! 3 hours now! Its not entertaining anymore... Improvement on the way, much quieter here now in SE Nassau, still gusting 45-50kts at times but the absolute horrifying gusts have really stopped...Islip/FRG and HWV obs showing the decrease too. Should be an hour for queens, probably 2 more though ERN NJ and NYC.

EasternLI
Winds died off a bit but they're picking up again. I'd say sustained is a bit less, but the gusts are still wicked. Holy crap, huge bang outside just now.
LocoAko
Parents finally lost power. Lots of videos of power flashes and cars under water coming in from all over the place. It sounds like a very large percentage of Jersey City is without power now.

I don't know if it's our street orientation, building (like a fortress), location, or what. Haven't felt threatened all day. We've had our windows open all day. RCNYILWX
Has anyone posting about the serious flooding in Long Beach heard anything about Atlantic Beach? My family has been long-time members of the Silver Point Beach Club in far west Atlantic Beach, and we're concerned Reynolds Channel might have met the Atlantic Ocean. kevbo81
i think only slow improvement with the winds through midnight. more bands off shore. look at the area on convection over Boston too.. not to say it'll come here, but it shows you that there is some potential for convective bursts like we've seen

We've had our windows open all day. It's weird, because my mother's place is like that, too. She always says that she doesn't get any wind because her house is kind of cozy and tucked in-- and this time, she felt it. She kept talking about the front door-- how it was shaking-- and how she hadn't ever noticed that before. And the large glass door in living-room-- that leads outside-- kept blowing open-- she couldn't secure it. She never gets any wind effects and she did this time. Thank God, she's near the River but very high up-- I'd be worried sick if she were in Lower Manhattan. She says it's calming.
