ALhurricane
Yeah the Cantore reporting does make you wonder about the data as there is nothing like on site observation/reporting. But still rising nonetheless - 8518750 20121029 19:24 4.14 12.09 7.06 8518750 20121029 19:30 4.21 12.33 7.06 8518750 20121029 19:36 4.28 12.54 7.24 Considering parts of lower Manhattan are flooding, I would tend the think the tidal obs are accurate, but still a little puzzling. calculus1
Anybody really good at geography and graphics? I think it would be interesting for those of us not from NYC, if someone could detail a map of the region and pinpoint which areas are receiving the heaviest flooding and damage. I'm sure many of us would appreciate it. Anyone want to give it a shot?

bluewave
20 minutes ago The water on West Park between National and Magnolia is now about 2 feet deep. Someone tried to drive through it and blew their engine. He's calling for help so I've called the police. The cars in the center island are in water up to their hoods. report from LB patch:

Paweatherguy1
Could be, hard to tell but he was talking like he was set up in the same place as Irene, but based on the observations, it's hard to see how the water wouldn't be any higher. Power to lower Manhattan has been turned off according to ABC news 7 roughly south of Freedom tower. Front St. and Tower St. are both under water and coming toward the center of Manhattan according to EMS. It sounds like the situation is currently much worse on the East River as it sounds like the water is two or three blocks into the East Village, per channel 7. Isotherm
Well, there goes the power. Just went out here in Colts Neck. Winds roaring out there. I'd estimate 60-65mph in gusts. Saw some transformers blow to my west. Luckily we have generator backup

StatenWx
Was just at great kills yacht club to check on our sailboat water is halfway up the roads to hyland and there are boats floating around on the street and it is gusting to atleast 80 in my opinion I have video of it and will post as soon as possible
sn0w
Absolutely insane even up here in Putnam County. Just took a walk on my road, couldn't go 30 seconds without seeing a transformer explosion flash in the distance. One blew up about 100 yards from me, sparks flying everywhere. Gusts have to be 60-70 mph right now and I'm at least 50 miles from the coast. Cracking and popping non stop. Sounds like a freaking warzone outside. Anyone who said this was overhyped I think can now take that back. Edit: Lost power as well, on generator power now
LocoAko
Does anybody have observations for how bad Hoboken is? If the flooding in downtown JC is any indication I'd say not good at all..
Sickman
Posting from my phone, and my service is intermittent... We've had numerous trees down, and transformers have been blowing left and right. Earlier, I watched a tree come down across the street that took down power lines with it. I'd estimate that we've had 40ish sustained, but some gusts have easily topped 65. LIPA called us, and gave an estimate of 7 to 10 days before service is restored... ugh.
