MJO812
Folks, it's obvious this storm is the worst hurricane in the last few decades for NYC. I agree. I thought Irene was going to be that but this blows it away. Too bad we didn't pick up a lot of rain. Imagine going through the eyewall of a cat 4/5 hurricane. This is nothing compared to that. People down south would call this a weak storm. I know it isn't for us, but to them this would not be a big deal. My friend who is from Florida wrote on facebook that this storm is no big deal lol

bikerman262
Waiting for them to talk about the building collapse. Having a hard time believing it is true. I can confirm that this is true, I am listening to FDNY Manhattan Fire Dispatch and they have a building collapse at 92 8th Avenue. They thought they had firefighters trapped but all are accounted for at this time Also, there are reports of severe flooding in lower manhattan with transformers exploding. Paweatherguy1
Battery is at 10.69 ft as of 6:42pm. http://tidesonline.n...The Battery, NY Extremely serious. This is very concerning. When is HIgh tide...isn't it not till 830? The forecast was 11-12 feet, and we are already approaching this?? Is it going to top 13 feet? NYC still has hours of a southeast wind. This is almost unfathomable.

We're wimps up here. we also laugh at flurries while they run naked in the streets.... winds over the past hour and half have been ripping up here. nothing historical but dangerous nevertheless. a transformer just blew. lights flickered a few times but luckily i still have power. Cfa
Power is officially out in Farmingville, I saw some huge flashes (I'm assuming they're from transformers) a couple of minutes ago. We had to gust near 80, everything shook, this wasn't happening earlier with gusts in the 60's. It lasted for 2-3 seconds and was extra loud. IntenseBlizzard2014
Approaching record stage which I believe is around 11.5? Still hour and a half left until high tide, it should get close to 12 feet. The record is actually 10.1' from Donna in 1960, so the record is officially broken.
