SnowGoose69
Everyone watch that rain band forming just off the south shore of LI, it will probably advance north over us in the next 1-2 hours...that could be where we see something over 80 if its going to happen. ace0927
Maybe he means wind duration. The faster this thing gets on land the faster the winds can start their slowdown. and the less time the strong winds can actually effect the water push...plus there is no rain here, that is a huge factor... JonClaw
Any chance Bloomberg changes his mind and opens up NYC Pubic Schools tomorrow due to the faster speed of the storm??? Once schools are closed, they are closed.
TwcMan
Its paid software. GREarth Three stations (at least) on LI gusting at or above 50 knots Not to sure but looks like the center is already on level with Atlantic City...if its moving NW wouldnt it make landfall somewhere around Seaside? Heisy
and the less time the strong winds can actually effect the water push...plus there is no rain here, that is a huge factor... Why is less rain a surprise to you, there hasn't been a lot of QPF noted for your area in any models...
eyewall
Once schools are closed, they are closed. Aside from that there will be power outages and damage to contend with. No way they open tomorrow.

FPizz
Winds are gusting pretty strong every few minutes now in Piscataway. I'm guessing that rain band is carrying in some good winds with it.

Sundog
Any chance Bloomberg changes his mind and opens up NYC Pubic Schools tomorrow due to the faster speed of the storm??? I'd say there's a zero percent chance of that happening.
ace0927
Why is less rain a surprise to you, there hasn't been a lot of QPF noted for your area in any models... harder to get the stronger winds from aloft down to the surface and with 8" of rain the entire storm takes on different characteristics...loosens the soil, makes the trees less sturdy, adds to the flooding...im sure conditions will deteriorate, but this isnt what i would have expected considering all the hype around it.. ag3
Big jump with 925mb winds towards the coast of NJ, LI and NYC the last hour. Without a doubt. Gusts past 50 are very common now in Queens. A couple gusts approached 55-60mph. LGA gusted to 54mph and past 50mph several times.

RUNNAWAYICEBERG
Not to sure but looks like the center is already on level with Atlantic City...if its moving NW wouldnt it make landfall somewhere around Seaside? no because its pivoting so its actually going to turn W and even WSW in the next couple hours. if you look on WV loops, the expansion of clouds on the S and SW side has actually headed back S over the last couple frames.
