Clinch Leatherwood
Good luck guys. I've been watching the power outage map. It's gone straight up in the last 30 minutes from 50 to 71k. It's got to be ripping pretty good out on LI. http://www.lipower.org/stormcenter/outagemap.html
Snow_Miser
No they aren't, at least not the LLJ winds. Check out the H85 map that Superstorm posted. Superstorm also posted an image a page back that showed 10 meter winds also shifting to the North side of the storm.

coastalplainsnowman
I'm guessing that at 28MPH, whatever the increased impacts due to forward speed, means that the '36 hour prolonged event' fears are less likely? Yes I know it's still extremely dangerous. But regarding the prolonged event fears, got to think that's far less likely now.
NorEaster27
umm just ignore HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 175 MILES...280 KM... Stormlover74
So its a hurricane, will making landfall in less than 5 hours yet somehow won't be a hurricane by then? eyewall
It may be a shorter duration event with faster forward speed but that motion combined with those southeasterlies has me real concerned. Additionally they will continue to pile water after landfall. NHC indicates this storm remaining strong now until well after landfall. Remember this is a different animal. DeltaPilot
My guess on the battery reporting is that the news folks have found a somewhat sheltered spot to report from. Wont be that way much longer IMHO.
earthlight
Gusts are increasing in intensity and frequency here. We have been very lucky to have no tree damage in my immediate area thus far. Edit: Crashing noises just as I type that.

The stability profile goes way more unstable once those SSE winds start. I would definitely prefer we get those after sundown for sure, still think we will. Its too bad this sucker had to come in during prime heating, I think its definitely aiding some of these winds to reach the surface right now. ace0927
I find it harder to believe that people have barely a leaf rustling when the wind in Hauppauge is snapping huge limbs every few minutes. let's not get too crazy with the minimizing. or the maximizing

Sundog
How so? Maybe he means wind duration. The faster this thing gets on land the faster the winds can start their slowdown.
