Parsley
Holy crap! My grandma just had to be rescued/evacuated from Lindenhurst, NY south of Montauk Highway by my dad. I don't think they had mandatory evacs. (not 100% sure), but water which has never in 60 years gotten up to the house was 2-3 feet around the house!!!!!! NEXtreme
Steve D : Given the pressure drops down to 937 MB, I would not be surprised to see winds increasing to 110 mph before land fall. Further, the fact Sandy now is sustained at 90 mph leads to wind gusts over 100 mph all but certain for central NJ on north through NYC.
earthlight
Let me pass along the link again. A great site to monitor. http://sandynj.com/ Winds have been going up pretty steadily over the last hour or so. Looks like gametime in about an hour or two area-wide. Alpha5
I don't even know what to say to that. Absolutely horrific, it is nearing LOW TIDE. To be fair, the airport is right at sea level, even the slightest rise in water will flood it. Just hope everyone there is safe

This is stil very tropical and we are seeing the best winds now close to the center and to the SW The models have been pretty adamant not showing anything just north of the eye wall or in SW NJ and DE southwest of the eyewall much over 55-65kts at 900mb...its becoming harder for me to buy this given the winds in the SW flank now only 6-7 hours maybe from landfall. TWCCraig
These winds here on LI are just amazing, definitely stronger than Irene and March 2010 nor'easter so far, this storm is no joke. The gust I just saw had to be over 60mph.
