Damage In Tolland

The geographic coverage of the damage is going to be larger than 1938 I think...all the way from VA to BOS. Also it put Metro NYC on the bad (right) side while 1938 largely spared them.

One day it will.

This was no 1938...though for NYC and a chunk of LI sound, the surge was definitely worse. The winds weren't comparable though. The number of power outages a '38 storm would cause is almost unimagineable.

Yes due to the track of the storm...more areas will see damage. Of course, more areas saw damage in Irene also compared to 1938, lol.

Yeah Joe said nothing really happened in Fairfield and that is was a tame storm.

What's your ****ing problem? I wasn't In Fairfield I was 20 miles away inland. As I said the beach is a war zone, and tree damage is extensive. You have become a first rate douche bag. Skier in vt and twright had the same obs as well and so did BDR and then our winds went east dp's shot up and yes all hell broke loose for ninety minutes with the sky lighting up from transformers exploding.

Those pics of block island are so depressing to see, so many great memories at that place.

Anyhow still without power here. Town is still a mess, trees and lines down everywhere. Took about an hour to find a place to get food. All roads leading to the beach are closed, and I can only imagine how nightmarish it must be down there

Relax, just noting your positive attitude in a rather destructive event. The sun always shines over your head. :)

if you were here in 92, it's going to be that bad down there. Lost alot of trees up on the NE end of town, but miraculously, we have power. I can't imagine anyone was out fixing things at midnight last night when it went back on...

Was just a baby in 92, but ya I ended up going to the country cow, which is probably near you. You guys are the only people in town with power! Southport, fairfield centre, and most of black rock are out

We made it through March, 2010, Irene and the snowstorm last year with power. Out for 5 hours last night, but that was it. Country Cow is close to here--we're by Lake Mohegan.

Tree devestation is much worse than Irene. Many fires, and structural damage. Fairfield beach is a war zone going to try and get down there later. Some siding blown off and one tree down very lucky. It was 90 minutes of hell in an otherwise tame event

Simmer down Joe. He was just quoting what you said. I personally had no idea you were 20 miles from the coast. You post made it sound as though you were still in Fairfield somewhere during the storm.

4.5 hours of yard cleanup and it's done. 2 houses up from me had a white pine snap and tore all the wires out of his house so the road was closed until they came and cut the tree up.

We got a call from the town managers office saying there's 50 rds in town with trees down or trees on wires.. I drove around earlier and saw some of that...Some rds are still blocked but majority were open.

I posted a picture of the hemlock that snapped off next to my house but it spared everyone by not falling in the road and taking out the power lines.

I'm stuck in Springfield for meetings but I was going to take a ride around the higher elevations in town above 1000', especially Union and see what was happening there. If we had 50-60mph gusts I'm sure they had more damage. The closed roads I did see on my way in were in the higher spots on the western side of town but i think the higher spots on the eastern side had higher gusts.

honestly i don't think it's time to be joking (even thou no harm was intened) or criticising someone like joe who went thru a very bad event. so the worst of the storm was an hour and a half and before that it was suprisingly tame (prob before inversion broke) ......missing the reason for giving him crap

here in cambridge, ma we never lost power and i just wish they didn't shut down the blue line (to revere beach) at 2pm bc i would have been there for some good pics

looking for more pics of damage down in Southern rhode island...any body have them?

Sounds like another day of no school tomorrow..axesmiley.pngaxesmiley.png But a small price to pay for town wide 70 mph gusts last nite.

Tolland Works

Issued by Steven Werbner, Town Manager

As of 1:30 CL&P crews in town have opened four blocked roads and are working in the Buff Cap Road area. This is just a make safe operation at this point on the part of the utility. There are still some ten roads that are blocked with trees and wires which must be addressed before the utility will switch to a power restoration mode. We have a town crew imbedded within the CL&P crew to assist them in cleaning up debris so that they can move that much more quickly. I have made a request for additional crews who may be available after completing work in other towns within our district. There is no time frame at this point for completion of restoration efforts. A major concern at this time is that the High School, Middle School and Birch Grove School are without power impacting the ability of the Superintendent to open schools. Again, as occurred last year, we are doing everything within our powers to mov...

We're closed through tomorrow school wise-going to bet that it's the whole week in the end...good thing they killed Feb vacation this year-it would have been canceled anyway...these recent storm events (Irene, snowstorm last year, 11-12 winter) led to many school systems around here doing away with it....

I'm always surprised it seems Tolland takes its sweet time for everything.

But heavy heavy winds,

Drove around the region a bit while working today & the tree damage is in pockets. Saw some trees on power lines in Ledyard & some large pines that destroyed portions of an iron fence at Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London. I think Irene did slightly more damage via wind in SECT. Hopefully that translates to quicker power restoration for us.
