Damage In Tolland

Friends on Long Island watching neighbors homes burn as fire cannot get to them with all the tree and water damage. Greenwich a mess, people in the dark homes destroyed.

I think most of the country will be shocked with what they see in the morning. The days ahead are going to be tough for many. Hope everyone is safe.

The infrastructure damage in the city... especially to mass transit... is going to be a multi billion dollar economic hit I think.

Also... NHC not issuing hurricane warnings will result in huge losses to insurers... but a big benefit to homeowners. Send your thank you notes to Dr. Knabb!

Disappointing here in Cumberland.. got next to nothing... gusts didn't hit 60.

It was amazing going to Narragansett today though..... The wind by far was the fastest on Scarborough Beach... had to gust to 65+ easily..... And watching the waves make Narragansett Beach wall look like its 2 feet high was awesome.

I imagine this will be a pretty lengthy topic in the forthcoming service assessment.

I will say, at least here in CT, I didn't hear one person from emergency manager to first selectman/mayor etc, say the storm would be NBD because it wasn't a "tropical".

The evacuations were spot on as were the surge predictions. The state did well tonight and it seems like they were quite prepared.

Unfortunately there's only so much you can prepare for in terms of houses going under water.

to all of the forecasters for this storm...great job btw. Really just want to congratulate you guys. This was huge...and you guys nailed it. Ryan, Scott, Will, everyone...you all did a really good job. Must be exhausted, get some sleep. We're gonna be bored for the next few weeks

Now I'm going to try to not be butthurt about it failing here and be grateful that my house is safe unlke many others tonight...I really think we need to keep that in mind. Here's to snow in a month!

Ryan I give you Kudos, but I will say this, tens of folks said to me, not a hurricane why the hype. I spent a lot of time pimping you and your blog Heard lot's of feed back, they got it because they listened to you. Thanks

Thanks, Ginx.

Interesting because I didn't get that sense but I wasn't out there. Seems to me after Irene people were genuinely worried and the first selectman/mayors did a good job getting the word out. The Governor's been phenomenal with storm coordination and response IMO.

Based on what I heard from home and the scattered reports from South County, I think there will be some impressive images in the morning.

You could fly in a helicopter from ACY to PVD along the coast tomorrow at daybreak and it will be a near continuous path of devastation.

From time to time I've thought he was kind of an idiot, but I feel like he really handled this well. Definitely impressed me...and saved many lives no doubt.
