OSUmetstud
Peak storm tide was at 11 p.m. - 1.5ft higher than Irene in Stamford. Water has since receded. yeah looks like the residual got to just under 10 ft...that's nuts. If it would have happened at high tide it would have been just short of 17 ft. Clinch Leatherwood
Friends on Long Island watching neighbors homes burn as fire cannot get to them with all the tree and water damage. Greenwich a mess, people in the dark homes destroyed. I think most of the country will be shocked with what they see in the morning. The days ahead are going to be tough for many. Hope everyone is safe.

NHC not issuing hurricane warnings will result in huge losses to insurers... but a big benefit to homeowners. Send your thank you notes to Dr. Knabb! BrianLaverty
Disappointing here in Cumberland.. got next to nothing... gusts didn't hit 60. It was amazing going to Narragansett today though..... The wind by far was the fastest on Scarborough Beach... had to gust to 65+ easily..... And watching the waves make Narragansett Beach wall look like its 2 feet high was awesome.

CT Rain
I will say, at least here in CT, I didn't hear one person from emergency manager to first selectman/mayor etc, say the storm would be NBD because it wasn't a "tropical". The evacuations were spot on as were the surge predictions. The state did well tonight and it seems like they were quite prepared. Unfortunately there's only so much you can prepare for in terms of houses going under water.
ChrisM
to all of the forecasters for this storm...great job btw. Really just want to congratulate you guys. This was huge...and you guys nailed it. Ryan, Scott, Will, everyone...you all did a really good job. Must be exhausted, get some sleep. We're gonna be bored for the next few weeks Now I'm going to try to not be butthurt about it failing here and be grateful that my house is safe unlke many others tonight...I really think we need to keep that in mind. Here's to snow in a month!

I spent a lot of time pimping you and your blog Heard lot's of feed back, they got it because they listened to you. Thanks
OSUmetstud
I thought this surge was underforecasted a bit...that's just jaw dropping, given how high the surge forecasts were. max surge at high tide for Jersey shore and NYC, but a couple hours off for the LI Sound? Interesting because I didn't get that sense but I wasn't out there. Seems to me after Irene people were genuinely worried and the first selectman/mayors did a good job getting the word out. The Governor's been phenomenal with storm coordination and response IMO.

Or 50 miles farther north I think would have been worse on the Sound.
