Damage In Tolland

Went down to Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth after work. No rain when I got there but the wind was ripping pretty good. The highest I measured was 40mph (I thought it was higher - had to hold onto railings to keep from being blown backward). Took a number of pics but had a hell of a time keeping the camera steady enough. The waves were impressive; alas, my pics don't do them justice. The spray from the breakers was painful, like a spray of buckshot to the face. After about 20 minutes it began to absolutely pour sideways. I ran back to the car completely soaked on the backside. I later learned that PWM measured a 55mph gust at about this time, probably when the squall hit. Anyway, tons of debris in the road, many without power and the wind continues to roar.

I saw last hour 21 footers at the Portland LNB. Not bad...

National Grid US@nationalgridus

Be advised that New England is expecting #Sandy's maximum impact from 8 PM tonight through 2 AM tomorrow, Tuesday.

New England is a pretty big acreage. Could they have been a little more specific?

Up our way (Danvers, Middleton, E. NA) the wind has lessened drastically compared to what it was earlier. The roar of the wind is there but it has returned to gusting and from earlier sustained winds. It seems like the worst has past unless we are in a lull of some sort.

How are the water levels in Danvers?

Things where I am are fine flooding wise. Although the wind has been amazing - still cranking that's for sure.

GOV. MALLOY ORDERS LOCAL OFFICIALS ON SHORELINE TOWNS FROM GREENWICH TO OLD SAYBROOK TO “HIGH ALERT”

Tells them he wants them to order Level 4 evacuations immediately

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy, based on the most recent data from the National Weather Service which suggests that the strong possibility exists for historic flooding at high tide later tonight, convened an emergency call at approximately 8:15pm with the mayors and first selectmen of the coastal towns that comprise the state’s Regions 1 and 2.

The data suggests that each town should immediately evacuate people for what is known as a Category 4 event, the highest possible warning.

The towns primarily concerned are in Region 1: Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford and Westport. Other towns of substantial concern are in Region 2: Branford, Guilford, Clinton, East Haven, Madison, Milford, New Haven, Old Saybrook, West Haven, and Westbrook.

“I’ve told the mayors and first selectmen that they have no time to waste,” said Governor Malloy. “To the extent they have the ability to order mandatory evacuations I’ve told them must give this their highest priority. I was concerned all along about the potential destructive impact of this last high tide, and unfortunately the best information we have confirms my worst fears.”

“I’m concerned about all these towns, but I’m especially concerned about the towns from Greenwich to Bridgeport. Those are municipalities with large population centers that are in harm’s way. I told those municipal leaders that these people need to be evacuated, and I they need to be evacuated now.”

“The situation is dire.”

Yeah, wind is still cranking here in South Salem/Swampscott line, def. not as bad as earlier but still cranking, will be interested if I lose power again. Hearing sirens constantly recently, not sure if there's something going on I don't know about.

Any concerns about flooding in Salem, MA? Just moved recently to Pleasant St. over by the Common.

I'm not sure 100% but I have to imagine you're ok there, I know Canal St by the O'Keefe Center at SSU floods easily and often, I think the commons area is generally safe? but I'm not completely positive.

KLWM. Y u no report wind? Anyone know what's up with stations not reporting? We had a 61mph gust this afternoon but they haven't been reporting for sometime now and we're getting some solid gusts over 50mph I'd guess. I'd like to see what this batch of convective precip cutting through Boston is going to bring for winds. Looking out my window just doesn't cut it, and I'm too low to the ground to get a good measurement with my kestral. cry.gif

Three of my friends in NH w/o power. Concord and Deerfield. Didn't realize NH had so many outages. Almost half of Concord out.

160k at the height I think. Just went out around the neighborhood again...one street with a tree down and power out, otherwise doesn't seem to be that bad here at least. Certainly nothing like last year at this time.
