ct_yankee
Jesus, 2 pages added to the thread while I composed this, that's crazy. Anyway, yeah, finally getting a taste of the real deal here in New Haven. Had been pretty meh until recently, but about 30 minutes ago we began to get intermittent gusts of genuinely significant proportions… Finally it feels like a major storm, one which could have a lasting impact. Looking at radar, you can see why. CT had mostly been dry slotted, with very little precip so far, and nothing I would even call heavy… But the band now rotating through the state is looking very convective, and all those little cell-lets are undoubtedly mixing down some of the truly high winds we knew were lurking just above the surface. So yeah, it's on now for sure, definitely getting rough for the first time, albeit intermittently. Hope my car is still intact, lots of trees on the street where I parked…

powderfreak
That's the Blue Hills difference right there... amazing what only 600ft of elevation can do on the coastal plain. E44G71... I think getting near 50mph sustained is very impressive. Of course Logan is on the water so it'll gust pretty well, but MQE seems to have been 10-30mph higher throughout the afternoon than other area sites. It isn't much, but amazing what that extra several hundred feet will do for the wind. Its pretty cool how its all relative to surrounding terrain...600ft on the coastal plain is more windy than 1,000ft+ in the interior, and its just as windy as 4,000ft up here. mattb65
Sounds like the heaviest winds so far coming through with these squalls, just massive wind gusts. Boston appears to be solid at maintaining power though still only around 2% of Boston's grid out of power. Impressive, must be fewer trees or something around the city. ORH_wxman
The warmer surge of temps is helping mix the winds a bit better. That 39 knot sustained at KBED is impressive...nevermind G58 kts there.
