RI Rob
Ya, I've realized where ever I go around my dorm is completely blocked with buildings. That's why I"m not feeling much at all... bummer.
ROOSTA
What a shock when people who haven't been effected start getting a little wind. Perspectives aside, the scope of this is jawdropping. Fully expect the NYC subway system to flood. Just about what was expected here, still holding on to power.
SouthCoastMA
In Acushnet..strongest winds of the day occurring now. Edit: I'm also seeing patches of blue sky.
ORH_wxman
Winds ramping up here again the last 5 minutes or so. Just had a monster gust...biggest of the day I'd estimate. Maybe 55-60mph.
mattmfm
Very concerned about surge at 9pm in Narragansett Bay. Forecasted to top Bob and looks like some last minute evacuations happening in Warwick. Few reports of a waterspout or two in the last hour in the Bay. CT Rain
Quick question. NGVD is based on sea level determined from low tide, correct? No... it's just a datum. On the NOAA tide website you can compare NGVD to MLLW... it will vary from site to site.

CT Rain
We are looking at a catastrophic and life threatening storm surge from Stonington to Greenwich. Water levels in Stonington through Guilford are as high as Irene and surge and astro tide is rising. Many areas worst since 1938... from the Lymes through Stonington worst since Carol. ackwaves
I'm pretty shocked ACK hasn't gusted to at least 60 knots. The highest was 52 knots i think at the ASOS thus far? Kind of weird...BOS was gusting higher than that. . Strange indeed. I think Tip is right on the money with his explanation.
wxmanmitch
Getting some big gusts here to 50 MPH or so. The inversion that was keeping the big winds aloft seems to be breaking.
