Ian
Jason's latest CWG discussion on the event. There is a modeled forecast of power outages. I think the gusts mentioned for us may be a little high but with so much rain, it probably won't matter that much as the wet ground and wind will result in uprooted trees. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/post/cause-for-concern-the-7-most-alarming-hurricane-sandy-images/2012/10/28/615bbbfe-210b-11e2-ac85-e669876c6a24_blog.html#pagebreak I've seen so many runs with potential to 70 around here and 80 east hard not to at least mention it tho I'm not sure we can mix it down to there. I'm not criticizing Jason, he's done a great job with the storm and it is worth mentioning as the winds not very far off the surface are fierce on the model runs. If that power outage model is any good, wow.

MN Transplant
Is that bullseye that keeps showing up in the area terrain influenced at all or just storm scale stuff? You'd have to think that is part of it, just based on location. I don't know that there's a good way to tell, though.

I feel like our strongest downslope events get a bit of a kick from 'funneling' .. Not that this is the same thing.

Bob Chill
Just incredible. Now if the rain is only able to bring them down to the surface, inversion aside. Heavy rain will bring the winds down. They are right above our head atmospherically speaking (if that's even a word. Lol). How much can mix is a big question that is tough to answer. 80% is a reasonable guess. Every person region wide should expect and be prepared for long duration derecho-like conditions.
